This was our first time patronizing Jack’s Bar-B-Q Shack I ordered two carry out meals. The sides I got were definitely not homemade; I had to add pepper and more cheese to my Mac &Cheese, the Green Beans needed some doctoring-up and the Ribs could use some seasoning on them. That’s “My Bad” assuming the sides would be “made from scratch.”

I had the taste for some bbq. Being a Texas native it’s hard to find “authentic” flavored bbq. The secret to bbq is to season it and let it smoke then wrap it in foil so that it’s tender. I paid almost $30 for a brisket plate (the brisket was not even enough to put on 1 piece of bread) and a pulled pork sandwich combo. You could barely taste the smoke in the meat and there was little to no seasoning. The sweet tea was good. The baked beans were mushy and gummy. Also, the potato salad was extra sweet. The bbq sauce seems to be ketchup based. Once again the bbq contained little smoke. Rule of thumb if you can’t smell the smoke then keep it moving. The lady at the counter dropped some of the containers of sauce and wiped them off then put them in a customer’s bag and wiped her hands on her shirt.

It’s okay, I don’t care for the sauce anymore, it just seams different, and the portion size is less. The stew is still good and that’s why it gets 4 stars. I guess I just haven’t gotten used to the news owners still. It’s just not quite Jacks now but still good food.

Jack and his staff showed up and showed out for my sisters baby shower. Everything was correct, packaged neatly, and ready in time! Everyone was please and FULL! Great people, great food.. what’s there not to love? And the burgers?! Delicious! Y’all stop by Jacks they’ll definitely take care of you!

Ribs and beef brisket were dry as hell with no seasoning. Had to drown everything in sauce to make it edible. Fried pickles, okra and onion rings were also not seasoned at all.

Jack’s is literally in a shack, but it’s okay. Could be cleaner, but it’s not as dirty as some. The food is ok. I think the BBQ would be better if it was actually cooked or simmered in the sauce. I don’t think adding BBQ sauce to food makes it BBQ. I had the ribs and they were mediocre at best. There was no flavor and they were a little tough, so they could have been cooked longer so they would be more tender. The potato salad and slaw were good .

Happened to find Jack’s by chance on a trip from NW Georgia to Augusta, and oh my, I am so glad I did! The staff is so friendly and kind and the food is top notch! Do not miss out on the brisket- so yummy it doesn’t even need sauce; the sweet potato fries were great too. I highly recommend Jack’s if you’re looking for some mouth-watering BBQ!
