Super solid Japanese food. I got the steak & chicken and my wife got the shrimp & chicken. Before tip the cost was $13, which is awesome. They give you a big cup of shrimp sauce and good amount of carrots too. We got takeout so I can’t speak to the dine-in portions but I would assume they are the same. I can eat the whole meal and be pretty full. We tried calling our order in but nobody answered the phone. The wait was only a few minutes after I ordered in person.

This is the 4th time we’ve order it and it was wrong. The last time it was my husbands food that was wrong. This time it was mine. I ordered hibachi chicken. I got steak and white rice….. What makes it even less is the lady repeated it back to me. When my husband got there the man repeated it back to him and it was right. He gets home and yet again. It’s wrong…. Your service has gotten terrible! You’ve most certainly lost a customer!

Ate here with my girlfriend on Monday before flying home. One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been too. Better than some places back here in Rhode Island. Definitely recommend for those who live there or like me were visiting. Will definitely go back.

First time trying….Placed pick up order. No issues with that part. Chicken teriyaki is what I ordered. Carrots looked fine but did not bother trying them. Broccoli looked pretty pitiful. I picked it out and didnt eat that either. Sauce was scant. So scant I can’t tell if there is teriyaki on it or if that mild flavor is just from being on the grill with other orders. Chicken was extremely dry. Between the dry chicken and lack of any real sauce, you could choke to death on the dryness. I will not be a return customer. Extremely disappointed after reading reviews of how good it is. Because it definitely is not.

The portion size was fair and the taste was okay, however the dish is called teriyaki chicken. There was a huge lack of actual teriyaki sauce on the chicken. Honestly, it tasted like we were eating white rice with grilled chicken. The meal would have been better if more teriyaki sauce would have been added when cooked.

The inside was dirty and poorly lit. The food was subpar especially for the price. As a comparison, you can get more bang for your buck at Sake Express in Gastonia, and the food is cooked properly. At Japan Express, my rice wasn’t cooked thoroughly and it was chewy. I ordered the hibachi shrimp with broccoli. They did give me a good amount of shrimp which made up for the chewy rice. The service was horrible! Our waiter was rude, the other waitress that came to our table was rude and giving us the side eye, they got my order wrong, and when our original waiter came back out, he was eating his own food in front of the other customers. It was really just a bad experience all around and I highly regret paying $37 for two people!
