While in town for a business trips this resturant was recommended by several coworkers. I never would have thought to get sushi in Findlay Ohio but Japan West is great! The server was very hospitable and friendly, the chef checked in on every table and had lengthy conversations, and the resturant was very clean. The resturant is conveniently on the downtown strip near to several business and hotels. The food was competitively priced for the area and a great change of pace from chain restaurants. Would happily recommend for business meals, dates, or pickup!

Favorite authentic place in town for sushi and takoyaki.

Amazing place! Service is always kind and accommodating. Both hibachi and regular dinner are good, especially the seafood options like sushi or the Hawaiian fish special. The Hawaiian fish special has different house made sauces depending on what the fishes are, and they always pair so nicely. Their tempura dishes are good too, with a nice thin breading.

Sushi was subpar for the price in my opinion and I’ve been to many different sushi restaurants. The pork katsu curry was very good, the tonkatsu Ramen was good, but no egg made it score lower. The cold sake was good. The chicken wing appetizer I ordered was so salty I couldn’t eat it, luckily they took it off of our bill after I had to send it back. The pork and onion skewer was good. Biggest issue was all of the food came out in the wrong order. Sushi first, then appetizers and my curry together and then finally 10 minutes later the Ramen. So that was unfortunate. For $135 I wouldn’t say it was “worth it”.

I don’t really write reviews, but this place feels like stepping into Japan in the heart of Findlay Ohio. Great tasting, authentic food and friendly service. Good for a light lunch or a fantastic dinner. One of my top 3 in Findlay hands down. The sushi and sashimi is fresh and expertly prepared. Always friendly and a clean restaurant to boot.

I had gotten sushi to-go a few years ago and wasn’t impressed, but my friend convinced me to give them another shot last night. We went for hibachi this time. I was rather disappointed in the meal. Paid $40+ for the steak and scallops option, which included soup or salad, mixed veggies (zucchini, carrots, and onions), the red meat, the seafood, bean sprouts and mushrooms, and rice. I listed them in that order because that’s the order it was served in, which felt really weird. I had the onion soup, which was decent, but my friend said the salad was underwhelming. The veggies were bland and didn’t go well with the two sauce options we were given. The meat/seafood were ok, and were served with the choice of sweet or spicy sauce. I chose the sweet and enjoyed it, I thought it was the best part of the meal. The sprout/mushroom mix was kinda odd to have by itself, and the rice as served was bland. I asked the chef to put some of the sweet sauce on it and it helped a bunch.

The food was good, heck the salad dressing alone was enough to bring me back. However, we had an incredibly long wait, where no one even acknowledged us at the table. It felt bizarre, as our table was full. It took a long time to get drinks, and then once we did we had to wait on a chef. Seemed to only be one working. We were given Chex mix as a snack to hold us over, but even that felt odd. The food was good, I had filet and shrimp, but nothing overly impressive for the cost of the wait time.

The music playing constantly – and very loudly – was abysmal for a japanese restaurant (imagine a hotel lobby – that kind of music). On top of this, it honestly had 0 decor. Maybe one painting here and there, that’s it. The room they seated us in felt like I was being interrogated by my own friends and family, or an office. The fried rice had no flavor at all – which was intentional on tge chef’s part, and depressing. Their sushi menu was massive, but it was basically columns on an excel spreadsheet.

Today was my first time at Japan West. I had gyudon and curry rice with grilled chicken. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere a lot! My dad loves sushi and we usually go to Dayton for him to get it but I will definitely be bringing him here to try the sushi here!
