Javi’s Taco Shack (formerly El Mejor Taqueria) first opened its doors in downtown Visalia in the Fall of 2008. It began with the promise of using the finest ingredients and the most exceptional service. Javi’s Taco Shack expanded in December of 2011 adding a bakery featuring freshly baked Mexican pastries, breakfast menu, coffee and fresh fruit, all in a comfortable environment and official becoming one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Visalia, famous for its weekly specials, express menu and late night dining experience. It is sought after by both locals and residents from surrounding cities. We are happy to announce our new location on South Mooney Blvd.

Very good food, I recommend to everyone. second time was not as good! I got a week old Tamale that almost broke a tooth. and they refused to add salsa to takeout orders. what kind of Mexican restaurant dosen’t add a little salsa to every meal? I’ll try a different restaurant next time!!!

Horrible.. seriously the worst night to crave Mexican food. THERE WERE CHICKEN BONES IN THE QUESADILLAS!! I almost swallowed them!! The birria tacos were dry with barely any flavor. Worst, dry, tasteless tamales I’ve ever had; Vallarta’s are WAY better. The cashier didn’t want to even answer questions as this was my first time here. I even gave them a small tip because I was grateful to have some Mexican food. But this place was a complete disgrace!! I do NOT recommend!

I love the bar the surface is excellent. The only downside is that they offer wings to go with your beer but they never have the guy to cook them. I always leave with my craving.

We usually drive across town to the Mooney location but this location has really improved since they changed the other side to a little cantina with a jukebox. It’s a lot more fun and one of the few places you can go have a great time, EXCELLENT tacos and not feel ripped off. Great value and atmosphere.

Worst customer service in Visalia! My company has used them many times in the past without issue and then they hired a few new staff members and we will never go back. We typically order over $200 worth of food each time and the last 2 times they have been rude, late with orders, multiple missing items and never seem concerned about making it right.

Quaint little shop with the abuelita in the kitchen. This is my go to place for breakfast and lunch burritos. You get your money’s worth ordering a bean and cheese or a Chile relleno burrito. Also, their chips and guacamole are good.

I’ll get straight to it on this place. It was not bad but it wasn’t good also it’s a place if u in a hurry an want something in your stomach type place. Well I like to start of the test of each restaurant with a wet burrito simple but delicious plate unfortunately this place didn’t deliver on such a simple plate. My beloved got the enchiladas combo as well a simple plate but the rice and beans didn’t have flavor the beans were bland tasted like water lol. Definitely need to work on there seasonings.

Tasty tacos and good portions. The grande meat tacos are amply loaded, and the quesabirria is cheesy beefy goodness. The al pastor was tender and flavorful, as was the carnitas, albeit a bit on the dry side.

Javi’s Taco Shack never fails to impress! I work downtown and come every Tuesday with my coworkers for some asada tacos! You can’t go wrong with their asada! Cheap eats on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday! $1 tacos with your choice of meat.. doesn’t get any better!
