It was ok, my bf and I had been here before when the restaurant was under a different name, and we were hoping it had improved. So we were encouraged by the cleanliness and new decoration, however the presentation of the food felt a bit sloppy, and the quality of the food wasn’t great. The greens were dry and the cabbage in the Atkilt Wot was old. Not sure I would come here again.

Beautiful place! I’ve tried many Ethiopian restaurants before but this is the best yet. Good food and the people are very nice too! They also have VIP area up the stairs for those who want a quiet place to talk but they have good music!

I had a fried whole fish here. It was amazing. Friendly and attentive staff. The owner came out and checked on us multiple times. They also have a very healthy vegan platter along with spaghetti options, well flavored and fulfilling. Ambience was also great. Sporty bar vibe with beautiful Ethiopian traditional coffee setup. I’ll definitely go back.

I have been to Monarch restaurant several times. It is a great pick for hanging out with friends. It is also a family friendly place and is very spacious for hosting all kinds of events including graduation and engagement parties. Above all is the great food and the wide selection of menu it presents to meet a multitude of tastes. It is conveniently located on the little river turnpike in Annandale with a huge parking lot that never gets filled. I particularly enjoyed the vibe and ambience of the restaurant with beautifully decorated wall paintings.

As an Ethiopian, I am usually very picky about Ethiopian restaurants, but JD is incredible. The meat in particular is the best in the DMV. Additionally, the service is so genuine. Amazing people; from the chef, to the owner to the hostess. Will definitely come back again many times!
