Jian’s Kitchen is a hidden gem of PGH! Although I’ve lived in the area for years, I somehow missed this place. The food was fantastic, with extensive vegetarian options. We had the veggie dumplings, Northeastern Mung Bean Clear Noodle, and the Hunan tofu. The spice on the tofu was perfect and the northeastern dish was exactly what we needed. The service was amazing also – and our waiter made sure everything met our expectations and dietary needs! 10 out of 10!

Of all the Asian restaurants we have tried in squirrel hill, this is my favorite. The food is hearty and really delicious. We got the fried pork cutlet and authentic mushun pork among other things. It was so good that we didn’t have any leftovers despite having ordered quite a lot of food for two people. Will definitely come back for more before we leave Pittsburgh.

The ambience is great despite it’s location in the ground floor of the building. I went here during non rush hour, the food was great. I tried chicken with eggplant curry. I loved it so much that I couldn’t stop eating to take a picture. I’ll go here again to try some more items on the menu and post some nice pictures of the food.

The food was delicious, and the staff was so nice! We made reservations for my elderly parents, and we asked for the big table even though we only had 5 people because of covid considerations. They very graciously accommodated us, and then were also gracious and totally understanding when we changed our mind and decided to do take out instead. Very lovely people and authentic Chinese food. We absolutely loved the braised pork with taro and the stewed beef with tomato.

Nothing to complain. Authentic EastNorth ‘东北菜’ cuisine. Deep fried Pork coated with sweet brown source is a MUST order dish. Stir fried potato, eggplant and pepper is also great! Very happy that I can find this place in PGH. 5-star. Next time I may try different dishes.

This place, although located in a obscure underground on the Murray District, offers a relatively authentic Chinese food experience. The food comes in a big proportion, and matches the “northeastern China” food experience deep in my memory. However, I would say that the servants could have been more enthusiastic… and I consider it a sin to not have Sesame oil & tomatoes in the miniature dumplings soup (疙瘩汤). Also the waitress forgot our rice until we asked for it. It’s not even during a busy hour!

This was my first time having northeastern style Chinese food. I had the cumin lamb and the pork and cabbage dumplings. The lamb was tender with juicy fat, and dish had tasty spices and heat. The dumplings have a distinct cabbage taste, and you can add chili oil and soy sauce to your preference. The wait staff were attentive and will help you with the menu. I’ll definitely be back
