While the landmark Main Line restaurant Yangming is getting ready to close its doors for good on February 2, a new eatery, Jin Ding, is already preparing to take its place, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Yangming’s Managing partner Michael Wei said that he and his partners have made a deal to sell the place to the group that owns the critically acclaimed China Gourmet restaurant in Philadelphia.
According to Salina Ko, who is a partner in the business with her husband, chef Ming Fung, the new restaurant will specialize in dim sum and will also have live seafood. The new eatery will open in August after some changes are made to the kitchen.
Based on 176 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.5 stars. Price $$

Delightfully quiet for a workday lunch. Understated decoration with a touch of elegance, the same elegance that runs in the manners of the waiters.

We had a wonderful meal at Jin Ding in Bryn Mawr last night. For anyone who may wonder, despite being in the same location, these are totally different owners than the former Yang Ming. In fact, one of the owners was our favorite server, Sunny, who worked for years at a different restaurant, and our reunion was wonderful! The place was immaculate and everything we ate was delicious. We had soup dumplings, scallion pancake, Peking duck, and gunpowder chicken. The menu is large and there are lots of choices. They have a reasonably priced bar as well as a Happy Hour that we can’t wait to try out. The service was wonderful and I’m so happy for this discovery. We’ll be back! If you haven’t tried it, I would encourage you to go!

I love the fried rice at Jin Ding! It’s better than any other place I’ve been to and they give large portions that can be good for leftovers. The restaurant is beautiful and very clean, and the staff are all welcoming and helpful. A bit pricier than some other similar restaurants but worth it in my opinion

Beautiful restaurant with amazing food! Employees were wonderful! Large portions so we had dinner for the next day which was still really good!

Nothing special. While the staff is nice and the restaurant is clean and well maintained, the food is just average. All three of my family’s meals were covered in an excessive amount what seems to be generic sauces. The noodles were both crispy and soggy but the rest was acceptable.

As someone with a lot of experience eating at various Asian restaurants, this place is fancy (for Chinese food). The decor is strikingly Asian but the music is definitely not. I really appreciated the football on the TV but it did feel out of place.

Nothing short of an amazing dining experience. Dim sum was very delicious. Pad Thai was a little aldente for me but still good. Beef teriyaki was tasty. The steamed pork buns were perfect. Pan fried pork and vegetable bun was delicious. First time trying the rice roll and it was very good. Kind of like a wide noodle stuffed with pork and delicious sauce. They kept our waters full the entire time, which is an extra star for me (if there was one)!

The salt and pepper tofu is bomb. So crunchy and flavorful. Great service and friendly staff. My parents liked the Peking duck and my dad orders the shrimp with lobster sauce (off menu). So good!

Great dine-in experience. We enjoyed the dim sum from the North Philly China Gourmet Main Restaurant, and we wanted a closer dim sum experience. Unfortunately, there was no cart service, which is not unexpected. But the food was excellent. And because it’s made to order, the food was hot and at its peak. The walnut shrimp was great, as was the dim sum platter, the vegetable spring rolls, the buns, and the dry chow fun. It was a calm and peaceful lunch. Nice piano background music and spacious interior. A different experience than the authentic dim sum cart bustling, for sure, but a good change of pace. Kids enjoyed the food and the environment. The AC wasn’t too cold, so that was a plus. Just a pleasant and comfortable experience. A more suburban/laid-back experience for sure, to go with the delicious food.
