Good (soul) food options, decent crowd mix, lovely atmosphere. My first choice was to do the chicken and waffles, but I made the last minute decision to get the shrimp and grits. The grits were in abundance, the shrimp and sausage pieces are large and there were pieces of bacon which was a surprise twist (never had bacon in shrimp and grits). It was a filling meal, very good flavor.

My experience at JoEllen’s on 8/27/2023 was by far the worst. I had family that traveled from out of town and wanted soul food. We thought of this place and it was a mistake. If I could, I would rate them a “ZERO”. We sat at the table over 3 hours before the entire party received their food. One plate served at a time, instead of communal dining.

Had the pleasure of dining in at JoEllen’s tonight and it easy such a pleasure. Me and my friends truly enjoyed it. From the time we walked in we were greeted by great customer service! Our server Nyla was excellent! She was patient as we asked multiple questions about different dishes, and she was very informative. I ended up getting the Fried Devil Eggs as an appetizer which was delicious. For my entree I got meatloaf, collard greens with smoked turkey, corn bread, candied yams, and Mac and cheese. Absolutely divine. You will have a wait with waiting on Food to be cooked fresh but it’s worth it. Meat loaf was juicy, and flavorful… Mac and cheese was cheesy and decadent and seasoned to perfection, greens were alright, wasn’t anything to jump over the moon about, candied yams were absolutely awesome..sweet, flavorful with cinnamon..just everything… we had the pleasure of speaking to the owner who was such a humble soul. I hope and pray this restaurant continues to soar and will definitely be returning soon.

Atmosphere is very nice. They have a buffet or you can order from the menu. Salad bar has a variety of toppings…love it!. They also serve breakfast and brunch.

Came in from out of town and I was so disappointed in the service and food at JoEllen’s. We waited over 2 hours for our food. The collards were cold and overly salted, finally got our chicken and it was uncooked and bloody! The meatloaf was hard and salty. I spoke with the owner Teresa Nix after my family and I was sitting there and 6 of my family members had not received their meal. She apologized and gave us 10% off resulting in a $92 bill for 3meals. I’m so disappointed that Ms Nix thought that 10% would suffice for that POOR EXPERIENCE! This is not a place I would ever recommend!

I finally got a chance to try JoEllen’s after frequenting their other establishment Catering With Care. Was sad to see them close their doors but I understand the need to upgrade and improve. I tried the fried chicken with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy. I finished it off with their banana pudding! Everything was delicious and I love the atmosphere and view. I was informed their bar will be opening up this week!

Aw man, despite the Mac and cheese being slightly cold, the catfish dinner was amazing! Delicious, crisply fried, and served with a tasty, cold strawberry lemonade. Also, they provide a wonderful AYCE buffet during the week. Don’t miss out!!.. like I almost did.

Came in for breakfast. This is a new establishment and it shows. The service was not great and the the food took a very long time to come out. Biggest issue was none of the food was hot and it didn’t taste good. Our things of notice, we did not have any bacon on our deviled eggs and a member of my patties who order chicken and waffles did not receive any cream cheese and powdered sugar on them. I was hesitant to write a review but feel people should know if they come here they may not have a good experience.

Ok so, my cousin decided to have her birthday dinner at this place and all of us were disappointed. The waitress did take a minute to get to our table but they were short staffed so we were very understanding. The wait time is not worth it. I was expecting more from this business, especially because it’s owned by people of my own culture. Many complained about the mac and cheese, it was cold and had no flavor and the greens seemed to be canned. The Buffalo chicken dip was actually pretty but it was more like mush, it had a texture similar to hummus. I think the fried deviled eggs got the highest rating on the table. Needless to say, they have a lot of work they need to do. Black owned businesses have to make sure they have a great plan established, great recipes, and a great team before opening up. Especially downtown. I give them a 3/10.

The food was AMAZING. Some of the best food I’ve had in Tallahassee tbh…I will single handedly keep this place afloat if I have to! The Fried Deviled eggs are CRAZY! So much flavor. Catfish was fried perfectly as well. I have no complaints. Service was astounding as well & food came out pretty quick. Definitely will see me back here
