I’d eaten at their little shack a few times for lunch when working before they opened the sit down place, I was excited to see they’d been doing well enough to expand. I took the wife and kids and everything was great, prices were reasonable (as much as they can be these days), and everything was delicious. The fish and burger were great, the pulled pork was good (I make decent smoked pulled pork; my wife ordered that and she’s hard to impress), the fried pickles were great. My wife didn’t love the mac and cheese, but she didn’t realize it was a casserole style, I thought it was good. I can’t wait to go back. (We had already started eating some of the food when I snapped the pics, the portions are better than they appear.)

My buddy & I have been to Johnston’s Southern Style restaurant(bbq) in Monticello, Florida 12 times(once a month). Each time we there BBQ was perfect!. Not TODAY, There must be new owners, there was a hot bar, they where closing at 3pm. The website said 5pm. The pulled pork was very, very dry Mac & cheese had no flavor, the biscuits where hard as a rock, the greens & black eye peas where good. WE Drive 50 miles to Awesome Bbq- but today was a big disappointment!. I will give you 1 star for the cooked vegetables. Come on Johnston’s Southern Style Restaurant, get your act together!

I had the chance to go to Johnston’s twice during a recent visit to Monticello, and the food was incredible! I almost have to recommend going on a Friday, as that is seafood day and the fried gulf shrimp I had were great, and a really big portion! I say almost because the brisket I had the next day was absolutely as good, and the ribs were wonderful, both complimenting the house-made barbecue sauces really well. They had lots of side options, and while mac and cheese is a sure winner every time, don’t sleep on the baked beans! They’re slow-simmered with pulled pork and they just melt. Make sure to ask if they have any desserts from Lil Fig Cafe on offer! I had the cheesecake and it was INCREDIBLE. Fluffy, but rich and tender, and needed no fancy toppings to make it absolutely delicious!

The food wasn’t that great but it was decent. My first time there and I was shocked that it wasn’t buffet like during the week. You tell them what you want off of the buffet, they plate it for you and you get only that one plate AND they charge you for everything. I got the ribs and they were chewy my boyfriend got the sliced brisket and I think chicken. The brisket was tough and dry. The lady plating your food had an attitude and didn’t seem like she wanted to be there. Our server was really nice though. I don’t think I would go back.

Absolutely worst breakfast I’ve ever had…ONLY decent thing was the sausage rest was utterly disgusting and the ONLY reason the sausage was edible was because after being sent undercooked sausage home in a to go order, I had to break out the frying pan and cook it til it was ACTUALLY cooked. 18 bucks a plate, ordered potatoes, sausage, cheese grits and biscuits and gravy. Got half raw potatoes with burnt hard cheese on top, cold grits with 1 slice of cold American cheese not even melted, 4 links of half cooked sausage and no biscuits and gravy. My husband got eggs (cold hard n tasted powdered) 1 link of sausage (instead of 4) same cold hard grits with non melted cheese and at least he got his rubbery biscuits and gravy, for another 18 dollars. Complete waste of money. Had to finish cooking everything myself just to make it edible. Potatoes had so much pepper they were inedible. Out of that 18 dollar plate i got 2 sausage links (gave hubby 2 so he had enough food for his workday since he only got 1) and cheese grits. I’m so hungry and furious but will NEVER go there for breakfast again…I advise to avoid their breakfast…their lunch however is pretty decent, which is why the 1 star…at least lunch is edible….

We did take out. Everything we ordered (fried shrimp, cornbread, collard greens, onion rings, small salad and pulled pork sandwich) was waiting for us. The service was very good. My southern mom thought she would be disappointed with the collards but she said they knew how to cook them right. The fried shrimp and onion rings were good. I liked the taste of the pulled pork sandwich but there was no barbecue sauce or lettuce/tomato on it. It was a very ample serving of pork. I would definitely visit again. Prices were reasonable for the volume of food.
