I love the salsa and the espinaca at Jose’s and I used to get incredible service here. Lately this place has really gone downhill. I recently ordered the creamy steak enchilada and it used to be nice and full of stuffing. This time, it was small and pathetic. The margaritas taste basic and “powdery” with their weird mixer. And to top it off, the service sucks. No refill on water and the servers will let you talk with your friends over dirty dishes. There was NO extra effort the two recent times I’ve been there. I may have to find a new favorite.

I had forgotten how much I like their chips and salsa. My grilled skirt steak fajitas were good. My brother-in-law had the crab and shrimp enchiladas and loved them. My wife was a big fan of her cheese enchiladas. Our server was attentive and a great communicator – and she handled our 13-person group with ease.

I used to work in the service industry. I have a lot of patience for anyone who works in a restaurant. The front of house staff at Jose Peppers was terrible enough to make me reach the end of that rope. My parents are obsessed with the place, so I went to pick food up from there for them. I arrived at the pick up time and called the number on the sign. Whoever answered said she’d let them know I was there. Ten minutes later, no one had brought the food out. It was a Sunday afternoon and I assumed they were just busy (even though I was the only one in the curbside parking area), so I went inside. There were barely any customers and about six employees chatting around the host stand. I told them I’d called ten minutes ago for a curbside order. One employee said “they’ll help you with that by the bar”, motioning to the to-go area without an employee in sight. So I walked over to the to-go stand by the bar where our food was sitting on the counter, getting cold. There wasn’t an employee on that side of the restaurant until one came out from the back, leaned against the bar, and messed around on her phone. The girl in charge of to-go orders finally appeared and I paid. There was no apology and they tried to charge us for our espinaca, which we had told them we had a coupon for. If the restaurant hadn’t been slow or they had been understaffed, I would’ve completely understood. I’m going to go ahead and see if I can get my parents hooked on a different Mexican restaurant.

My favorite thing to get here is the Monterey Chicken Burrito. That’s my go to. It has chicken and Spanish rice wrapped in a flour tortilla smothered with espinaca topped with tomatoes. Served with beans and rice on the side. The pomegranate margarita is always superb

This is truly a top-notch establishment. Everyone was friendly from the hostess to the manager walking around. The server was fantastic. He stayed on top of my refills, even though I was incredibly thirsty. They also provided us with excellent birthday desserts for my twins free of charge. I have been going to Jose peppers for years and will continue to do so.

I usually eat at the Overland Park location because I work over there, but my partner wanted to go here. I always get the cheese and onion enchiladas. I was very disappointed. They were rolled up so tight and seemed so small. The cheese was almost non-existant. There were barely any beans or rice. Usually when I get this plate it’s so full I can only see the edge of the plate, but the food barely covered anything. My partner was also disappointed with his plate. My server was very good, except for one thing. The table next to us got up and got a bottle of salsa off the wall and put it on their table. About 10 minutes later they put it back half full. I let my server know, so she could pull it, so nobody else would use it. She just said “Oh I don’t use those bottles anyway” and left it there. Other servers continued to refill other tables with that bottle of salsa. I’ll continue to go to the OP location, because I always have an excellent experience, but my partner has no interest in returning to any location.

Jose Pepper’s has long been my favorite Mexican food in Kansas City. I’ve been going here for years and it never gets old. Their chips and salsa are so addictive. I miss the shredded beef burrito, but everything else on the menu is great too!

Always have enjoyed eating here. I got the chicken fajitas this time and they were excellent. I highly recommend this place. Have been coming to this location with family for years.

Showed up an hour before closing and the restaurant was already shutting down. Espinaca came out cold because ‘they had started to shut down’. Couldn’t get an ice tea refill because ‘they had started to shut down’. Monterey chicken burrito came out with the incorrect cheese topping because ‘they started to shut down’. If you are going to advertise being open till 9 then you need to be able to serve your customers. Terrible experience.

It’s Tex Mex so if you are expecting the “Speedy Gonzalez/Emily Special” type menu and food of all the fifteen billion other “authentic” Mexican restaurants, you’ll be disappointed. On the other hand, food has more of a zing with thicker red sauces and tons of cheese. Queso dip was great and not runny. Service was good.
