We had to drop off a hire car at San Diego airport, and dinner was a few hours away so, when we put petrol in the car and noticed a deli across the road, we decided to check it out. My wife wasn’t that impressed by the deli but we realised we were on “International Restaurant Row”, so we had a quick look at what was available, and decided to give Karina’s a go. We had the surf and turf fajita and a cheese quesadilla. Both were excellent – whoever was in the kitchen definitely knew what the were doing – and the combination of tasty rib eye steak and king prawns worked really well. If I didn’t live >5,000 miles away, I’d definitely be a regular!

Ordered takeaway this time but outdoor seating is nice enough if you get shade on a hot day. Got the rib eye burrito, very tasty with lots of guacamole. My wife ordered the appetizer shrimp taquitos, which are flautas (deep fried flour tortillas), super flavorful, shrimp are chopped up and mixed with peppers, onion, etc, so hard to tell how many you’re actually getting. The mango salsa on top is sweet but adding hot sauce dilutes it. She loved the salad that came with it: lettuce, pickled onion, cucumber and a nice dressing. Comes with tortilla chips.

There is absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to the food at this little takeout taco joint. Both the bacon-wrapped shrimp taco and the Marlín taco (smoked fish and cheese) are outrageously good, and the Ceviche Karina is in a delightful green chile sauce. There’s a fair amount of outdoor seating, and the only issue is the breeze, which will blow your napkins everywhere. Otherwise, this is a great meal.

Excellent quality fresh fish Ceviche and savory surf and turf fajitas plate. Flavors were incredible. Nice outdoor patio eating area. Table tops could be a bit more clean but service was friendly and quick. Outdoor seating only but you can sit indoors at the establishment next door per an apparent agreement between the two places. Parking can be a challenge. When you finish up here you can grab an amazing Gelato at the corner Cafe too.
