This is a true gem, never would have guessed Toledo would be home to one of the best Japanese dining experiences in the Midwest but here we are. Truly exceptional in all facets. Service, dishes, attention to detail, the omakase style just puts it on another level. Add this on your bucket list, it’s a must. Fine folks of Toledo, you have no idea how lucky you are to have such an experience. Or perhaps you do! Can’t wait to go back.

I’ve dined at this restaurant twice – once as a regular customer and once for the omakase course. The food here is undeniably excellent, deserving of five stars. However, I must address the service, which leaves much to be desired.

Solo diner visiting Toledo, and just called if Kengo had a vacant seat in their Omakase bar. Thrilled that they did. The reviews were spot on. Excellent and friendly service. The atmosphere is busy and fast paced as it is a small restaurant. The Omakase that night was a combination of new things I have never had before, plus some yakitoris and nigiris. Pricey but well worth it. Great area in downtown Toledo and right beside the Mudhen’s stadium. The owner also owns a Ramen place next door as well as another restaurant in Toledo’s casino. Definitely will do all of them!

Truly a hidden gem in the Midwest. The price point and the quality of the food is out of the world. This place is so popular so there’s always a long wait. Come put your name down early in the day if you’re in the area, then come back at dinner time.

An absolute GEM of a sushi spot. I’ve had sushi and omakase tasting menus all over the US and beyond and Kengo is consistently one of my favorites. High quality ingredients prepared expertly. The bartenders also happen to be some of the best in the Toledo.

Shobu. My first time at either location. The menu is on the wall. There is not much of a selection but the items we had were very fresh and very flavorful. We sat at the sushi bar and had the best service from the friendly sushi chef and our waiter. I would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back.

The sushi was very good, and the waitress was very friendly. A few vegan options, which is a nice surprise. The place was jam packed.

Favorite restaurant!!! Love Kengo’s omekasè. It is so much fun and different every time. Everything is very authentic, high quality, and delicious. Some of my favorites off their menu are the negitoro roll, otoro, and chutoro sushi. Highly recommend!!

I’ve been waiting to try this place, but never had the chance when passing thru the area from Columbus. We arrived at 17:05, and already were on a 2hour waitlist, but it was well worth it! Their wait estimate was spot on, by the way! For 6 of us, they said 2-2.5hours, and we received notice that our table was ready in 2hrs 5min! The service was fantastic – friendly and quick! Everything was fresh, flavorful, perfect texture and temp, and perfect size to try a bit of almost everything as a group. The nigiri portions were generous cuts of fresh fish, and the salmon and tuna just melts in your mouth. Next time I am in town, I will be sure to exercise the little trick to make sure we get a seat right at open timing

Wow what an experience! The fun started from the moment we walked in, we were greeted with the traditional Japanese welcome from the crew. They were loud and brought a certain energy to the restaurant. Expect a wait if you don’t reserve a table during peak times. The place is small but it plays a crucial part to the experience. The right space and limited seating really adds to the quality of Kengo. There is a reason why Kengo can keep the rent when the seating is so limited, and it’s because of the quality of the sushi and other foods served here. Also expect to pay a higher price for this quality of fresh fish for an inland market. We were a company of 3 our check came to almost $250. Highly recommend pork belly! It was so good we ordered it again. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, they can even speak Japanese and they seem to love the culture as well. Next time I would really love to sit with the chefs and have them serve me, that experience is $98 per person. Great restaurant, great food, great staff, and a great place to impress your date.
