On Saturday 8/26/23, 5 of us went into the KJ Whitehorse Bar & Grill in Peru, NE before the 1st Peru State football game of the season. We sat down, the server greeted us, took our drink order, and when she served the drinks she took our food order. We waited more than 45 minutes for our food. While we waited for our food we saw other servers help other tables. People who came in after us were getting their food, but not us. Our server never came back to our table. I waived a different server over and asked for more drinks. When she came back with the drinks I asked about our food. She went to check. She came back and said it would be another 10 minutes. A different person brought our food and left. No one came back to even refill water. This whole time we saw 3 different servers help other tables but no one came to us. We were seated in the middle of the dinning room so it was not like we were in a far off corner. Those servers walked by us often but not once stopped to talk to us or ask if we needed anything. We then had to ask for our checks because no one came back to our table and we wanted to go to the football game. (We were tempted to walk out without paying but that would not have been the right thing to do.) When a server brought our checks, I asked if we were forgotten about by our original server. She said our original server was cooking the food. (Obviously not our food since there were several others that ordered after us and were served their food before us.) The server who brought our checks apologized after I asked if we were forgotten about but she wasn’t the one who should have apologized. We paid the bill but did not leave a tip. If the original server would have come out even once to own up and apologize, it would have gone a long way. Everyone makes mistakes and in the service business, when you make a mistake, the best thing to do is own up and apologize. We went to that same place several times when it was Zach’s Bar & Grill and always had great service. This was our 1st time there since it became KJ Whitehorse Bar & Grill and we won’t be back. From now on we will plan ahead and eat in Auburn or Nebraska City before going to Peru.
