Knife Pleat is housed on the Penthouse floor of South Coast Plaza. Elegant, intimate, and surprisingly more casual than expected, this restaurant is easily one of my favorites. I would expect nothing less coming from a Michelin starred restaurant, and it doesn’t disappoint. The service is impeccable and the food is extraordinary. The menu changes regularly, but the plating and quality is a constant. If I could visit monthly I would be happy. This is a costly restaurant that increases in price on the weekends. Reservations are highly recommended due to the small size of the restaurant. Expect to pay a deposit when making a reservation.

I am impressed above and beyond with everything this place has to offer. I just stopped in to take the edge off…. of all the shopping I was doing with my girl. Which, “I love to death!” And wouldn’t change for the world. But when I ordered the shot of tequila and sparkling water. Matt, the most amazing bartender ever, told me the chef brought me out a little appy which was striped bass and trout roe. Which was incredible!!!! Then they made space for us on a night which was for a tasting only. And so we just went to town and started ordering everything we could. We weren’t even hungry, we just wanted to experience the flavor profiles this team of magic chefs brought to life. I don’t leave too many reviews anymore. But I would be doing you a disservice by not recommending this place if you are down in the Newport Beach area. Chefs kiss was delishhh!

We were excited to go to our first Michelin star restaurant and we’re not disappointed. Every course was phenomenal in taste and presentation. The service was impeccable. We felt like royalty. The staff found the perfect level of warmth, kindness and attentiveness without being intrusive. We truly appreciated the wonderful evening of fine dining.

When I go to a fancy restaurant, I expect to make some memories. Knife Pleat definitely left me with some memories. While I do have quite a few criticisms of the food, I thought that the experience was well worth the price. I think I paid about $490 because I added to the already included tip. The service was nothing short of ideal. I was even blessed to get a tour of the kitchen. Not that anyone was expecting anything less but it was squeaky clean. It was wonderful to see all of the different stations where the food was being prepared. It really brings an appreciate for the food and labor that went into it.

All around, what an experience! I would have preferred more quality protein instead of squab as a main dish. Menu cycles and I guess the beauty of this place.

The Emporer’s New Clothes fairy tale may describe the experience at this restaurant; a big deal made over something that does not really exist.
