We ordered takeaway sushi and sashimi from here. The sushi rolls were yellowtail with green onion and the gourd roll. We loved the flavors of the rolls, but they were not wrapped very tight. The sashimi platter was very good. The pieces were cut fairly large, and everything tasted great. The prices are ok, but we have had as good of sushi for less money. We would try it again if we were in the area.

Best Japanese food I ever had. Everything was delicious and the presentations were beautiful. They source locally or directly from Japan. Employees are paid a fair wage with benefits, a restaurant I want to support.

So delicious. Had my sushi made fresh in front of me and then handed to me by the chef! Everything was amazing, and I was able to experience some unique new flavours. Definitely try the seaweed salad. It’s my go to at any Japanese restaurant, but Kyatchi took it to the next level! The space was cozy, perfect for a date night, and there was a fun, creative cocktail menu. Happy hour specials were also great!

Very cozy and welcoming experience. Really enjoyed the Miso Soup and Salt Shiitake Kushimono (mushroom grilled skewer) best. The Yakitori sauce Momo Kushimono (chicken thigh grilled skewer) was good too. The House Dog and Yakisoba were an exciting different take than what we we were expecting. We’ll come back excited to try more items in the future.

Service here was great and the quality of the sushi was top notch. Their ramen restored my faith in ramen after a bad experience elsewhere but some of the dishes were woefully unseasoned. Particularly their age dashi was a bust. The tofu was cut too big and ended up cold in side and the broth was bland. However, that was just one missed note in an otherwise enjoyable meal, we’ll definitely be returning.

Amazing sushi (+ more!) restaurant in lower town St Paul. I love that they are committed to using sustainable seafood to protect the environment. The fish melts in your mouth – it’s so good. The menu is extensive – small plates, skewers, hot dogs with a twist, rice bowls, and of course sushi. I had the chirashi bowl but look forward to coming back sometime so I can try everything else! The hot towel they give when you arrive is a really nice touch, and the decor is so pretty. I can see why this is a top rated restaurant. Highly recommend!

This is my first time at Kyatchi. I used to come here when it was tenpopo. I can’t believe that place is gone. Not to say Kyatchi isn’t worth it. Gotta say the ambiance is very neat and hip. Love the old wooden floors and the rustic cement walls. It all sums up to a sense of adventure and tavern feel. The meats are a bit on the dry side, the fish is fresh. The ramen is pretty bland, just very soy sauce heavy taste. The best thing we had was the grilled squid, alright it’s a bit on the salty side, it went well with the mayo. The hotdog was also another high light, did not imagine this place will serve hot dogs but it was a pleasant surprise!

I came here for my first sushi bar experience. The staff member who greeted us was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and along with the general atmosphere and the other staff, made the experience very enjoyable.

from a person with a lot of food allergies, intolerances & sensitivities: kyatchi was pretty easy to navigate and I was able to find lots of items on the menu that I could tolerate. And everything was incredibly fresh. My partner who was previously a sushi chef said the rice balanced, the fish was fresh, the seaweed salad was perfect! pretty good experience and friendly service.

Kyatchi is hard to explain to people, I now call it a Sushi and Hotdog place and usually that clears it up. I’ve been here a few times and although the food is unique I wouldn’t say one dish was my favorite. I would recommend bringing a few people with you and trying multiple things during lunch when it is cheaper.
