I typically order from LIPS but wanted to try this place. When I ordered pasta, it was great. However, I ordered online last night, I ordered a large steak sub and a pizza. The order arrived extremely late and they were closed when I started to eat. I was confused to find an Italian sub with ketchup and Mayo…… I called today to ask about it and was told “I thought it was strange” but “not my fault”. I have the sub uneaten but because I ordered online and don’t have an account with the app they use, I cannot even go back to show I ordered a steak sub. Be careful if you order online and double check everything- even if delivered.

The owner is such a nice guy and the cheese pizza is hands down the best in the area. If you are looking for an authentic Italian pizza from a small mom and pop pizza shop you definitely gotta give this place a try!

Ordered one time from here and haven’t been back since. My wife and I ordered chicken cheesesteaks and were seriously disappointed with what we got. They were bland with very little flavor. Plus to top it off, when my wife bit into her cheesesteak she found a piece of a broken clam shell. What the heck?!

Having moved to Delaware a year ago. I have been searching for good restaurants to frequent. I have been here a few times. Each time trying something different. Each time being disappointed. From staff not being familiar with the menu, to the taste/flavor/value of the food. My last purchase was a pizza with mushrooms and extra cheese. The dough was paper thin, the sauce was bland to barely there, cheese had no flavor. Somehow, my pizza tasted buttery. I wanted a pizza, not buttered toast.

A cute little pizza place. The server was friendly and attentive. The fries were a little brown and the pizza was not very flavorful nor had enough cheese. If they tweak a few things, it will be good.

My girls and I used to live up the street and this was our favorite pizza and Italian food restaurant. The owner is a very friendly man and the staff are friendly as well. It’s a hidden gem in Townsend as there is seating for a great Italian lunch or dinner.

I called in an order for a cheeseburger kids meal with tomato & it came with french fries & tiramisu. I asked for ketchup on the side for the fries. I was told that it would be ready for pick up 20-25 min (even though it was almost 7PM & not during rush time). I arrived 20 minutes after I called in my order & they had not even started making my food. There was one person who walked in less than a minute before I walked in & it seemed like he had called his order in ahead of time as well. There were no other guests dining in that I could see & the phone had not rung while I was there. Also, I could not see any food orders sitting anywhere waiting for pickups or deliveries so why my food hadn’t even been started was beyond me. I had to wait about 10+ minutes for my food to be cooked. I got the food home & opened up the styrofoam container. The fries had ketchup drizzled all over them. They were so soggy & gross so they weren’t able to be eaten. The cheeseburger had a piece of cheese that seemed fake/processed cheese & corners were still unmelted & cold. The cheeseburger had no tomato as I had ordered & it was mediocre. The tiramisu was from a round cake, not a piece that you get from an Italian restaurant AND it still had frozen spots!! For an almost $20 meal, it was almost like throwing a $20 bill in the trash! I would highly recommend you going somewhere else for your meal especially if their food is anything like what I received. Also, customer service was not great since they had not even begun my order until I was already in the restaurant & I got a half-hearted “sorry.” If the food had been fantastic, I would have totally ignored the fact of waiting over 30 minutes for a burger, but seriously it wasn’t even close! I should have picked the other pizza shop directly across the street. Restaurants need to remember that they are a dime a dozen!!

I have been a customer of La Matesina for many seasons, and am proud to have come to know Liz, Stefano and their family. This place is the best kept secret in Delaware, quite possibly the best ‘lil Italian bistro around. You do yourself a grave disservice if you only come here for the pizza, for while there is nothing wrong with that, you really owe it to yourself to order an entree and put Stefano to the challenge. His food does not disappoint. Homemade bread, homemade sauces, Stefano truly brings the flavor of Napoli to his cooking. I have not had any entree I didn’t enjoy, and if you leave here hungry, it’s your own fault! A final note – I tell Stefano all the time that his Marinara sauce is the best I have ever had, and I would put it up against any other Marinara from four or five star eateries. It’s truly magical, especially if you get fresh garlic bread with cheese and dribble it on the bread… I’m getting hungry now myself! 🙂

Wednesday is $6 large pizza and this is our first time eating from here and have to say that it is REALLY GOOD !!!! Will definitely be ordering more I’m the future…. Clean restaurant and friendly customer service.
