I’ve visited La Perla Taqueria a few times now and have had a consistently good experience. Friendly service and delicious, quality mexican cuisine. The restaurant lobby is kept clean tidy and the interior decor is very nice. Great downtown Chico location too!

My wife and I walked in on a Friday afternoon after seeing this place for over a year, and was assailed by the extensive menu they offered, and then hit with “Sticker Shock” at the prices. I ordered the Deluxe Chicken Nachos…she ordered the #3 special, which was the Steak Enchilada and Ground Beef Taco w/ beans and rice. With 2 large drinks… just under $30. The food arrived fast enough, and we found out why. There was absolutely NO heart/soul/effort put into the food. 75% of the nacho chips were broken bits, chicken was bland, not enough beans, too many jalapeños, the “Guacamole” was bottled, and the sour cream was pure liquid. Her Taco was set into the beans, which made it soggy, and the steak was flavorless. The salsa bar contained more mass-produced salsa, which was plain tasting. The best part of her meal, she says, was the rice…best part of mine was not finishing it! Far, far better…and cheaper, authentic Mexican restaurants in Chico, folks. Bypass this establishment and do your research.

My wife and I booked this place to cater our wedding and while the food was good, the way we were treated by the owner was completely unacceptable. We had issues with him multiple times, and should’ve taken those early signs as a red flag. Some of which even happened during our wedding and caused tremendous stress. Please stay away from this place if you’re trying to find a caterer. Owner is extremely rude and not professional. He will change what he proposed in his original agreement. There are better options out there. If we knew what we know now, we would’ve paid more for a better caterer.

I just paid 12$ for a borrowed the size of a Taco Bell bean and cheese burrito!! It’s smaller than a bottle of water! They should be super ashamed! No wonder the lobby was empty! It was a bean and cheese burrito with veggies.

My torta seems like just all bread and little almost no meat. Tacos to baya makes a better and less expensive torta.

Saw reviews about Menudo and decided to give it a try. One of the best I have tried, you can choose the meat (I do not like “pata”, or corn), it comes with all the condiments and enough tortillas, worth to try. They also have fresh squeezed juice, a little bit expensive but good. Definitely I’ll come back to try other items in the menu. Friendly Staff too!

ACTUALLY MY FIRST TIME IN CHICO. MY WIFE HAS COME A FEW TIMES TO VISIT MY SON. WE WERE CRAVING SOME MEXICAN FOOD AND COLD CERVEZAS I ORDERED SHRIMP DIABLO PLATE. REAL AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD GREAT FLAVOR AND SUPER COLD BREWS. EVERYONES PLATE HAD EXCELLENT FLAVOR. CLEAN RESTROOMS, THE ONLY THING THE CHIPS WERE HARD GOOD VARIETY OF SALASA’s AT THE SALASA BAR.

They were fast and the service was friendly but the food was a disappointment. The chili Verde had no Verde flavor and was more like a pork Asada. The big chunks of tomato we’re not as palatable as pico generally is. I will give them credit for portion size and I may give them another chance in case this was just an off day, but if it’s not I hope they develop better recipes. In addition, there parking is very limited and since there was nobody in the I have to suspect their employees took up all the parking spaces closest to the door.
