La Tia Taqueria & Cantina was opened in July by Leo Vazquez and Luis Nava, a pair of 30-somethings who share Mexican heritage and earlier careers in local restaurants. Vazquez’s family is from Mexico City; Nava is from Colima on the Pacific coast. They wanted to bring a more traditional picture of Mexican cooking to the table, drawn with a contemporary hand.

La Tia Taqueria & Cantina was beautiful and its food followed suit. We chose this restaurant for date night and we’re excited for what we may try. We had reservations so we could be seated right away. Tia Taqueria is popular and the dining area filled quickly. When we left there was no more parking so people had to street park. The atmosphere was wonderful and our waiter, Lewis, was knowledgeable, friendly, and timely.

My friends and I are visiting New Orleans from California. We decided to stop by due to all the positive review on Google and Yelp and let me tell you, we were not disappointed. Everything was delicious and a 10/10. Customer Service 10/10, even met the owner- Leo- who provided the best customer service. Food and flavor is 10/10. Just need to get one thing out of the way before giving a full review. This is not what I expect when I see “taqueria” in the name. Taquerías are where you go for some good, but cheap tacos/ tortas/ etc. La Tia is not cheap. But….what it is, is fresh and flavorful food with many unique menu options. It’s also, quite possibly the best Mexican food in Metairie. Possibly the entire state of Louisiana.
