Les Galettes
History Of The Crepes
The story goes that Galettes appeared around 7000 B.C. They were made from water and various flour. The concept is found in every world civilization. During the 12th century, the Crusaders brought buckwheat from Asia Minor and it began to be cultivated in Brittany. As early as the 14th century, the Bretons (habitants of Brittany) developed this gastronomic tradition by adding different fillings to the galette. The Crepe, made from milk and enriched flour, goes back to the Roman times where they were prepared for the Lupercales, celebrations which honored the return of Spring and the promess of future harvest. Today, Crepes and Galettes are still festive meals. The French celebrate the Chandeleur every February 2. They hold a coin in one hand while tossing the Crepe and making a wish, in hopes of a year filled with riches. Nowadays there are more and more variations of Crepes and Galettes accompanied by diverse fillings. They stand as a reknown gastronomic specialty

I joined a friend for brunch at this restaurant over the weekend. Finding a parking spot was easy on the nearby side streets, and for those who prefer not to drive, the restaurant is conveniently located near the metro. Despite being a weekend, the restaurant was not very crowded, with only a few parties in attendance. The waiting staff was very welcoming and attentive. At the beginning, baguettes with butter were served.

I only ordered a creme brulee and a French baguette for delivery, the truth is that it feels authentic, the bread is delicious, hot with butter is out of this world and the creme brule delicious, I will definitely return to eat at the place to try their dishes.

I had first visited Le Chat Noir about 15 years ago, not long after they opened, and somehow had not made it back until Restaurant Week this year. And I’m glad I came back.

was the most disappointing experience. We paid almost $150 for food that wasn’t even decent. The creme brulee was just bad. There was no “creme” about it. It was so thick you could cut it with a knife and it didn’t taste good. It’s my favorite food ever and I threw it away. And it was tiny for the price. We ordered a $30 steak and it was the smallest little piece of meat with basic soggy fries. My husband got a crepe and it was pathetic. A tiny, messy, mound with Nutella more smeared on the container than in the crepe. If the meal was a quarter of the price it may of been a neutral experience. But a tiny creme brulee that I threw away isn’t worth $14.

Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The mussels and thyme-rosemary French fries; the quiche du jour; the mushroom puff pastry; the chocolate mousse; and the cocktails. The fries in particular were outstanding, perhaps the best I’ve ever had.

Went late before closure but we were invited to seat in nonetheless. This is the first thing that made me love the place. The restaurant really looks like you are in France , from the decorations to the lighting.

Was here for brunch. Food was good. Atmosphere was good for a late brunch on the weekend. Customer service NOT great!!! The guy seemed rude. Didn’t come check Our table not even once! Had to wait about 20 minutes with only 2 other parties in the restaurant. Don’t expect much when it comes to customer service here.

Had a great time eating at Le Chat! Food was yummy, and we tried the suzette en flambé which was cool! People watching was also entertaining. Overall great experience and hope to return again soon!

Ignore negative comments about the service. The owner and all the staff were efficient, helpful and warmed up nicely with a minimum of effort. Challenged my 23 year olds regarding drinking age quietly and in french, accepting their oral assurance they were legal. Very nice touch. Crowded Saturday night, less than 5 minute wait for reserved table. Food prices are excellent reflecting solid choices, old standards, and a few gourmet choices. Reasonable wine prices (no domestic wines) and the recommended Chardonnay was delicious at $55 bottle. Trio du Terrior is one of my favorites and the beef choices we had were up to par. Unlike a big name, high priced restaurant the dishes were 95% as good at 60% of the price. Desserts amazing!!! Full dinner for 3 people including the wine was under $200 before tip. I will be back.
