Run by daughter-father team Valerie and Robert Mnuchin—and named after Valerie’s paternal grandfather—Léon captures the romance of European adventures and seaside destinations. A wood-burning hearth anchors the restaurant’s Provençal menu, showcasing regional ingredients and unfussy, countryside French-Italian fare.

Wow. The quality of the food at Leon burns as brightly as the multi foot fire used to cook the food. We strongly recommend.

Definitely not worth the price… the good: friendly staff, nice atmosphere, easy reservations. The bad: some food was not prepared right and had to be sent back. Food was just OK. I don’t want to hate on this place but when you charge $33 for apps and mid 50’s for entrees, your food has to be amazing and this definitely wasn’t. It’s just another overpriced hamptons restaurant with mediocre food. Would recommend vine street for the food or sunset beach for the atmosphere over Leon

The wood beams on the ceiling, wood fired grill and a single candlelight on each table added to this beautiful ambiance. Hostess was welcoming and helpful, after reading reviews we wanted to switch our outdoor table for one by the roaring fire cooking station inside. Cesar salad was crisp and breadcrumbs were the perfect topping, half a chicken dish was the show stopper and the fries that accompanied the burger were chefs kiss. The pasta dishes were on par with a side cafe in Italy and the fact they took the time to sing my son happy birthday with the most perfect banana split was a true testimonial to their effort to bring their service to a Michelin star worth experience.

A fabulous new addition to the Shelter Island dining scene! The modest wine list is the best on the Island and the service was great. The open hearth kitchen is bustling with activity and the show is worth the price of entry.

Amazing food, Amazing service. You really can’t go wrong with any of the dishes. Our favorites were the squid appetizer, tomato salad, clams pasta, fluke and scallops. Save room for the chocolate cake. The indoor space is beautiful and there’s ample outdoor space. Well worth the trip to Shelter Island.

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe how wonderful Léon 1909 truly is. The place is spectacular, the open kitchen is magnificent and the sights and smells of the fire cooking everything is intoxicating. The food was incredible, I kept thinking “this can’t get any better” and then it did. Wonderful people, Paul was outstanding behind the bar and made us feel like old friends. What a special place, we can’t wait to come back!

We went for dinner for the first time Saturday May 6 , we first got disappointed by dinning outside because it has no atmosphere , inside looks way better. In terms of our dinner it was fine but wouldn’t rave about it specially for the price we payed 100+ per person 3 had a bottle of wine and 1 a beer and we split 3 starters, main courses were good enough . All in all the hype that we heard about Leon is a bit overdone considering the prices and the outdoor dining experience ! The staff were good and professional. We might try again the the fall and hopefully inside this time

I had high expectations but was surprisingly disappointed. Everything is so salty that I was concerned for people’s blood pressure. As someone who loves salt i found it overwhelming. It’s pricey and while I have adjusted to the numbers I expect the quality to be commensurate. Ingredients are fresh, portions are fair but in the end you need to enjoy it. I’d say the squid and Caesar salad were very good, the Pinot noir rosé delicious, the gratis truffle with the check perfect, but after that, eh.
