The Picon Punch
Louis’ signature drink the Picon Punch, which is known in some corners as the “Basque cocktail” is based on a bitter orange spirit called Amer Picon made of bitter oranges, gentian and cinchona. It was invented by a Frenchman named Gaëtan Picon in 1837, and the drink evolved from a French aperitif and stomachic on its own into the punch through the hands of the Basques, especially in the earlier Boarding Houses and the Basque-American restaurants.

What a great Nevada experience! I have lived here so long and this place reminds me of what Nevada is all about. The people are independent, live with freedom and thrive in the adventure. Great Basque vegetable soup with cabbage, salad with Basque vinegar dressing, fresh bread, butter, and the perfect thick slice of cheese. Tender Basque lamb dishes, oxtail to delight, the most attentive service. Looking around and taking in the genuine people… feeling at home. Grateful.

Absolutely unique spot. Very friendly server, Sean, took great care of us on our first visit. Shared table with some lovely locals. The oxtails were just tender and delicious. Basque food and drink were special. This place is clearly a local institution. Not to miss!

We had a large group for a wedding party. The service was wonderful, we were fed well with so much delicious food in stages. The veggie soup was fabulous, everyone loved it. Most of the other sides were meat dishes and everyone liked everything . I am vegetarian and wondered if I would get enough to eat, but I was stuffed at the end of the meal. Good salad, bread, soup and great french fries filled me up! The entrees were all meat, and I think all were ordered by someone! It was a fabulous dinner and we had the best time!!

We stopped by here after a few drinks a block away. We had the sweetbread fries. They were very good but a bit salty. The less adventurous among us wouldn’t eat them, but I thought they were very good, even though they were a little salty.

Very disappointing we went there for my husband’s birthday and I had a lot of family members thinking that it would be a really good experience . Everything’s from the service to the food and in the ambience were horrible. None of the food was even remotely a Basque Experience. It started out with a soup that was just broth and cut up potatoes literally . Then they brought out the salad which is basically the only thing I ate because it was mostly just lettuce and a light vinaigrette.. we had to constantly ask to bring the food because nothing was coming to the table. We ordered the lamb, the sweet breads and the ribeye. All of it was terrible. The lamb was so salty. We couldn’t eat it. The sweet breads were super chewy and the ribeye. It was a horrible piece of steak that was not cooked properly then they re cooked it and it was well done . Couldn’t eat it , It didn’t matter. It was just not good steak not good quality food, not good quality meat not good quality service and they just kept trying to up charge us for everything. Super disappointing. I ordered the cheese and the fruit for dessert and they brought it out in a ranch cup. For my husband’s birthday. They just put some whip cream in it another ranch cup with the candle in it. And we paid extra for the cheesecake . It was just so absolutely ridiculous like no thought no care in the food. No love no nothing just an all-around bad experience.

I go here every time i visit reno (about twice a year). I even got 20 of my family members to come here for Mother’s Day, all the way from California. They are super professional!! Reasonably priced. Everything is so good that you gotta chew it with your eyes closed to tune the world out and enjoy every bite because you won’t get it anywhere else. I love the family style of serving. There is ALWAYS more than enough food! I’ve gotten the steak, the salmon, the steak, the steak, THE STEAK!!! Next time, I’m gonna make it to lunch. The lunch menu looks amazing as well, but i haven’t tried it. I’m looking forward to coming back!

This place is 100% for the experience and not much else. The appetizer meals were very standard and nothing special. The entrees were a lot better, especially the oxtail and sirloin steak. The staff was friendly and helpful. A great place to come for a family style meal and get-together. Definitely a spot to check out if you are looking for the Basque experience.
