Way back when, in 1970, Louisiana Creole Gumbo could be found on Gratiot Ave., on the edge of Eastern Market—back then it was called Luzianne Creole Gumbo and Margerine and Joe Stafford served up the authentic Louisiana and southern-style fare Joe picked up from his mother on Bayou Lafourche in Louisiana.
Forty years later, LCG still serves up the Stafford family recipes. From its 3 locations across Detroit, Louisiana Creole Gumbo is continuing the traditions, legacy, and love of quality food and company alive in their stores.

I’m very impressed with the Louisiana authenticity of the food. I worked with Stephanie, the owner’s daughter to photograph a few of these dishes and she seemed genuine and very helpful. I noticed her and the staff’s customer service was spot on as well.

I just visited this location today for the first time. I ordered red beans and rice with Cajun Sausage, Classic Jambalaya, Shrimp Gumbo, 2 Shrimp Po’boy sandwiches and a slice of 7up pound cake. Let me tell you….this DID NOT DISAPPOINT! It was all flavorful and delicious! The staff welcomed everyone who came through the door and the service was fast, friendly and efficient. This is definitely a return to spot! I told Stephanie as I was checking out that they MUST plan on being open for more than 3 days. The food is just too good for them to not be open all week! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

The choices were plentiful and my Red Beans and Rice with added Chicken was DELICIOUS and hearty. My husband ordered the Seafood Gumbo and we couldn’t eat it all, delicious as well. I’d been waiting for this place to open for the longest and was informed, it was difficult to find people to work and because of that this location will only be opened, Thursday Thru Saturday until they’re fully staffed. The staff was friendly with great smiles and the place was colorful and welcoming, but you couldn’t dine in at this time. I’ve visited their other locations in Detroit and very excited to see them closer to my neighborhood. If you buy any of their offerings I guarantee you’ll go back for more. Congratulations on your new location and The very Best is yet to come. God’s continuous Blessings. I pray you get the right staff to aid in your continuous growth. Amen!!!

Nope! Nope! Nope! Drove over 15 miles to get this gumbo and I am hugely disappointed! I’ve never saw gumbo so runny and watery. Oh and not to mention the VAST amount of celery they use is disgusting! My husband got the shrimp gumbo and his wasn’t any better. I’m very disappointed that I spent $24 on this. I’m sure I won’t return.

Listen here first time visiting this establishment I WILL BE BACK!! THE service matched the food EXCELLENT!! And the food stayed hot until I got home which is 25min from the restaurant!! Red beans rice sausage with shrimp!! Large go see them and go hungry

This place is so good! The red beans and rice were the best I’ve ever had. The collards were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. The corn muffins were also bomb – crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. I appreciated that there were so many vegetarian options. The staff were very friendly and the place was clean and airy. I am definitely going back.
