Lucas Brothers, an iconic diner in the Columbus, IN community, founded by Pete & Lloyd Lucas, of Bloomington, IN. in 1937. They purchased two shops called Hinkle’s, located on the 4th and 5th block between Washington and Franklin St.. Pete sold the diner in 1963 and started a similar shop in Jonesville, IN called the Brick. Former owner/operator, Donna Cannon, purchased the diner in 1973 after working at the restaurant for over 20 years. The doors were closed in 2012 and reopened by Donna’s grandson and wife, William and Chrystal Broaddus in May of 2020. Although the restaurant has changed locations and a few owners over the years, they still carry on the same tradition of these delicious smash onion burgers. Same grill, same great taste!

The food is great. It’s fresh, so you will wait for it to cook. It’s hot and juicy and delicious. The onion rings are the best! Hot, crunchy and just the right amount of salt. You can call in your order if you’re in a hurry, or order and sit and relax in the booths. Add your own ketchup and mustard if you want it. The food has the right amount of grease to make it flavorful and tasty.

The hamburgers are some of the best around, everything was cooked fresh and hot and it can’t be beat. I definitely recommend eating here if you are craving an outstanding burger.

It’s been decades since I’ve had a Lucas Burger and it was at the original location. The new generation have done the original justice. GREAT Burger!! Best I’ve had in a long time that wasn’t self-made.

We got the double patty melt, grilled chicken sandwich, and onion rings. The food was really greasy, but really good. It took longer than expected, about 20 minutes, for us to get our food after we ordered. I’d rather wait 20 minutes for a fresh burger than get a frozen patty any day. I HATE frozen burgers and these are definitely fresh not frozen. Cute little place.

Surprisingly great find inside the mall. Hamburgers were perfect and the fries were crispy and hot. Friendly staff. We’ll be back.

Great local burger place! A little gem tucked away in Fairoaks Mall. While it may not be the most convenient location, it is definitely worth the effort! So much better than franchises. Go visit & support local!

Fresh cooked burgers with grilled onions. Tastewise, it beats the chain burger joints, hands down! Burgers cooked the ole’ fashioned way, on a seasoned grill with love! Located inside Nexus Park, it’s a little off the main path, but certainly worth a visit.

I wanted to try the old Shortys tenderloin which used to be the best around. It was terrible. One piece of meat instead of two, not the original breading, and way overcooked, burnt.

First time eating at this iconic burger place and I can say it was the best cheeseburger I have ever had. It beats the Brick by far.
