Stopped read menu on street & saw gazpacho. Went & pleasant surprise. There was a small bar, a pizza open kitchen, and a series of booths. A larger kichen o n the side prepared main dishes. Met at door and lead to seat. Waitress came right away. Took order for bowl of gazpacho & pita bread & iced tea. Pita was toasted, ice tea was fresh brewed and gazpacho was delicious!! When I got ready to leave the waitness brought me a “to go cup” because she could see I hadn’t finished mine. I will most definitely return. I go to the movies across the street then I will go for a snack.

The food was good, but in my honest opinion, just subpar. You can definitely make sandwiches like this at home, but prices are cheap and you get what you pay for. We got the Italian sandwich and the Sarasotan wrap. I would recommend if you work in the area, but don’t go out of your way to come here.

Have to thank “the ex” for introducing me to this go-to institution, I was unaware of it until we met. Now I’ve been coming here for 25 years. They’ve been here since 1958.

Brings back fond memories of coming with my dad for a French Dip with my dad some 50 years ago.. food was even better than it was back, then definitely a place to come to see an original Sarasota sandwich shop!!

This place is old Sarasota. It’s where the locals work and eat lunch. My wife & daughter had visited before, but this was my first time. I was not disappointed. The food was great ( always THE most important thing) , the local diner ambiance was exactly what I expected and the waitress was as friendly as she was great at her job. I had the “Aztec” sandwich: roast beef ( a very generous amount) , lettuce, tomato and a spicy slaw that was just crazy good! My wife went with the “Paisano” …mortadella (fancy ,thin sliced bologna) and roasted peppers…so good ( yes, we share). I topped it off with some gazpacho and a cup of the soup of the day…. everything was just fantastic! Prices are very competitive and you won’t be hungry when you leave! Highly recommend.

Old school, kinda dark, nostalgic vibe. Extensive sandwich menu, fantastic chili, hard working staff. Highly recommend. There’s a reason they’ve been in business 60 years.

Great place for lunch, very inexpensive, quick service, and delicious food. What is not to love? The Sampler Platter was delicious with large cubes of feta cheese, olives, onion, cucumber, and oil and seasoning, served with warm pita bread. The Double Italian is even more delicious with mounds of cut deli meats and a pressed crusty roll. The photos do not do it justice.

This sandwich shop is everything you want in an old school down right delicious sandwich shop. Decor from the 60’s/70’s. Images from the previous owner during their circus life. The service is quick, friendly, and inexpensive. Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat.

The owner is very rude. But Hope you get your rv and Porsche like you talked about the whole time I was there at the bar eating lunch. Oh And god forbid I take a 13 second phone call on speaker as low as I can take it because of my faulty phone ear speaker. He will not have it and rudely tell you to take it off speaker.
