I ordered the chicken and the mixed vegetables over the phone. I was told that it would take about 15 minutes. When I showed up after 15 minutes, the order was ready. The food is hot. The dish is delicious, the level of salt and sweetness is about right. The service is friendly and prompt. The portion is generous.

The whole experience with this restaurant was terrible, but the worst part was that we found a hair in my mother’s food. When I called to place my order, they left me on hold for almost 10 minutes. I hung up and called back and they were able to take my order right away, meaning they just straight up forgot about us and left us on hold. Halfway through our meal we found a hair in my mom’s dish that could not have been either of ours. Then when I called them to inform them, they left us on hold for an extended period of time AGAIN, they did not apologize for the incident, but said we can bring it back for another dish or a refund. I certainly won’t be eating here ever again. Terrible service and hair in the food…no thank you.

Incredibly rude!! I called to place a delivery order. I wanted the lunch special (which he said was 8.09) and a crab Rangoon. He then said the total was 23.94. I asked how much the crab Rangoon was politely because that didn’t seem right. He huffed and puffed throughout the entire call and then proceeds to say “Look do you want it or not? I’m busy.” I then asked for a manager, was told no, then HUNG UP ON!! I’ve tried to call back but they just keep hanging up. RIDICULOUS!!!!

I have always LOVED Main Kwong. Today, I ordered the Shrimp in Garlic Sauce lunch special. As always, the portions were good and the price was reasonable. Lunch and dinner are always very good.

First and last time I eat there. I picked this place because it had the most stars and about 700 reviews. To be honest it was pretty bad. Everything except the rice tasted like the oil was old. The Crab Rangoon was mostly tasteless except for the old oil taste to it and they were oddly shaped, like they were all smashed. I ordered bourbon chicken but what I got was bourbon pork… I think?? It had things in it I couldn’t chew up which grossed me out. The edges of the meat were sharp. It seemed like meat was old and over cooked maybe… what ever it was it was not what I ordered. I only had a few bites before I decided I could not eat it. The sweet and sour chicken tasted like old oil. Even the fortune cookies were broken. The rice was good… that’s all I can say good about the food we got.

Update: I have since revisited Main Kwong and I can say it is one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in terms of the food. I still believe the portion sizes are small for the price, but what you get really packs a flavorful punch that isn’t matched by any other Chinese restaurant I’ve been to.

Every time I order; the flavors and taste are always fresh, yummy, and consistent. Very very good 5 stars all the way.

For as long as I can remember, Main Kwong has been a Charleston landmark. But now, apparently, they have become at least a partial victim of covid & the economy. The very Spartan dine-in part of the restaurant has been closed completely. The “restaurant” is now à carryout place only. You can either phone in your order for delivery or self pickup… or you can walk in, place your order at the counter, & then wait on a bench while your food is prepared. Trust me, it is worth the wait because this is where you can still get the best Chinese food in town.

I’ve been coming to main kwong ever since they first opened! One of if not the best takeout in the Kanawha county! Sometimes you can get a hit or miss but overall VERY GOOD CHINESE!
