We traveled to Louisiana to drive up the historic route of 3049. We found this recently and decided to make the drive over to see the sites. The time to go is in June when the flowers are blooming, but we went anyway. It is a very pretty drive, but as it came time to eat, we couldn’t find a restaurant. That’s when we saw this one in Gilliam. It was nearly 2 p.m., and we were not sure they would seat us. When we walked in, they met us at the door and showed us a seat. They said it was no problem and took our orders. The food came out quickly and was hot. I had the Chicken Fried Steak, and my wife had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. The restaurant was nice and clean. If you’re driving 3049, stay on it till you get to Gilliam and eat at the Main Street restaurant. You’ll be glad you did.

My husband and I love this place! The chicken fried steak is tender, hand battered and worth every calorie! We love this little, hometown, family, place and will continue to make the drive to eat there!

We found this place on Google maps as we were driving up I-49. Just a short way off the highway and we’ll worth it. Note that the lunch hours are 11-2. I had the chicken fried steak which was well flavored and crispy. Mashed potatoes were tasty and the pinto beans were excellent. The hot water cornbread reminded me of deep fried grits and was very good.

I’ve been on a journey to find a good chicken fried steak in this area and I am happy to say that I’ve finally found it. This place is my new favorite and I will be more than happy to make the drive to come back regularly. The food was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The quality of the ingredients was evident. The owner/chef stopped by to check on us and chat. The care he has and the pride he takes in what he does was readily apparent. Listening to him talk about his restaurant gave me a fresh and renewed love for this industry that working in the industry can take away from you sometimes. This was a wonderfully pleasant experience all around and I cannot wait to come back.

We stopped in Hosston to shop at Big Mamma’s Antiques we asked the owner ,Ray where we could find a good hole in the wall restaurant to try. He said he knew just what we would like and suggested Main Street Restaurant in Gilliam. We talked him into going with us and found a real gem!! Great food, wonderfully friendly service and excellent food!! We will go back for more of that wonderful food and hopefully talk Ray into returning with us!!! A wonderful Friday road trip!!!

The owner and staff are RACIST… My family and I waited for over an hour for food that never came. We ordered the special and observed white consumers who came in after us get the special but we were told “they had no more”. The white patrons were being seated and served with full attentive respect and we could barely get drinks or engagement from our waitress. The manager and/or owner whatever he was, had zero regard for our concerns , which led me to the certainty that it was intentional. My family has been pillars of the community of Gilliam for many years and this is unacceptable. Black people do not and I repeat do not spend your money with these racist, ignorant people. I am a restaurant analyst for a communications outlet here in the Arklatex and will make sure this gets out to the public asap. Bigotry is not okay in 2023.

On our way home back to Memphis from Shreveport we were looking for some top notch food that was off the beaten path. We were getting a little worried as we were almost to the Arkansas state line and hadn’t had any luck when Main Street popped up on our radar. Looking at the reviews we figured we’d give it a shot especially since it wasn’t too far out of our way.

My Mom grew up nearby in Hosston and this was one of her favorite spots. When she passed, we decided it would be the perfect place to host a lunch for family and friends after a memorial service. Tim and his team did a great job organizing a fried seafood buffet for our group of 35. He even let us use his TV to present a slide show and have out of town guests join via Zoom. The food and service were excellent. I especially enjoyed the fried catfish. It’s a great, welcoming place. I recommend Main St to anyone looking for a down home meal.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I can’t say enough great things about the Main Street Restaurant. Upon walking in you are greeted by a lovely host. The environment is very warm and inviting. Once you’ve sat down you are again greeted by a nice young waitress with a smile on her face that tells you she loves her job. The Menu is large featuring 4 pages. They have it all. From huge burgers with fries, pastas, seafood, fish, steaks, frog leg dinner platters, country fried steak, and lots of variety of appetizers. Crab claws, Onion rings ,cheese sticks. You name it. We both enjoyed the DELICIOUS country fried steak that was paired with fresh steamed broccoli and homemade creamy mashed potatoes and garlic toast. We drank delicious sweet tea and took 2 pieces of chocolate pie to go. I highly recommend stopping in if you ever find yourself in Gilliam, la.

Waitress, busy took forever to get food order, then seemed agitated and when asked for something she said I’ll be right there and we ended up asking others for what we needed.
