Honestly this was the most disappointing Hawaiian food I’ve ever had. It was my first time there, I was the first one up in line and they didn’t even acknowledge I was there. Finally they asked what I wanted, I got the Katsu, Kimchi, Macaroni Salad, White Rice, Teriyaki Chicken and Spicy Ahi Poke. The Ahi Poke comes in a small container bowl, for the extra cost not worth it. The Teriyaki Chicken and Katsu were flavorless. I was not a fan at all, the macaroni salad had potatoes in it? I’ve never had Hawaiian Macaroni Salad with potatoes, it did not taste that great. Kimchi was also very bland. When I was asked what sauce I wanted I asked for 3 sirachas, when I got home I had 5 soy sauce packages. I’d much rather go to Island Flavor 808 even if it’s more of a drive. First and last time.

I love this place! I get the large bowl for $15. Includes 3 meats, 2 rice balls and 2 sides. The katsu and teriyaki chicken are delicious and so is the Mac salad. Sometimes i sub out a scoop of rice for corn for 30 cents more. Definitely great value. Easy parking right out front

Ordered 3 meat platter. 2 chicken katsu and 1 mochiko chicken. There’s no way 2 orders of chicken katsu is 5 pieces. Also, there was plastic in my chicken. Had to throw out my $18 order. Do not want to eat plastic. Will not be coming back. See photo for one of the plastic pieces

The kalua pork was very flavorful. The mac salad was very good. The rice was a little dry, which was probably because we ate in between lunch and dinner. We had a dole whip, which was refreshing and one of the main reasons we came to Makai.

I was looking for something different to eat for lunch. Using Google maps to find food places near me and this place caught my eye. After reading some reviews, I decided to try it out. I got two choices of meat, two sides and white rice. The chicken katsu was cold and dry. It was a little crispy but overall it’s not fresh. The shredded pork is good but also cold. The chicken wings was very dry and cold. I guess it’s your basic Hawaiian fast food restaurant. No hot dish everything was cold. Unlike L&L that still serves your hot and fresh dishes. The macaroni salad is a little salty for my taste and it has big chunks of potato in it. I don’t know why? Overall, I am not impressed after paying $23.00 for a cold meal. Staff was friendly and mask is not required.

I wouldn’t call it *authentic* Hawaiian food but close enough to local that I’m good with it. I had the Kalua pork and mochiko chicken (which is not really mochiko chicken but still very tasty and flavorful).

This is the OG location. Their food never misses AT THIS LOCATION. At other locations I like nothing about anything, their food isn’t consistent and their service is booty cheeks awful. Here, you’ll get good service and always good food. Although I used to see the owner and he was always very friendly before they branched out to franchise with crazy royalty rates, he’s never around anymore. Food 10/10 JUST HERE THOUGH.

This place was a little gem that we didn’t mean to go to. Wanted to hit the asian noodle place a few doors down but line was out the door. Found this place instead and enjoyed a great lunch of fresh Hawaiian bbq. Service was done right and menu was easy to figure out. The food was fresh and tasty – and there is a nice outdoor dining space to boot.

I would love to show you a picture of the beautiful food. I love to show you a picture of the bowl of rice with the meats and the sauce. I’d love to show you these things. But it didn’t last that long. Everything here was so amazing. From the chicken katsu and to the pork, and the rice. Truly an awesome restaurant. Great for lunch. Great for dinner. Don’t hesitate, just go. It’s exactly what you’re looking for
