What a surprise, it’s one of those places that you stumble upon and fall in love with all the food. The fried rice, tofu, and pork were all so flavorful that we finished every single bite!

Agreed with Matthew here. Definitely not a reason to give 1 star to a favorite restaurant. They’re trying to make this place look better for us to enjoy and you’re going to fault them for that. C’mon now. Not a fair rating. Mama Jis is outstanding! Can’t wait to see the renovations and to see you in August. That numbing fish won’t come soon enough!

Had dinner here to celebrate Chinese New Year’s Eve. Dumplings were fantastic! Would come back for more.

A neighborhood fixture for years, Mama Ji’s has been a bright spot in the Castro’s restaurant scene. While not the biggest menu, I think this plays to their strengths with no real “duds” offered. Particular favorites are the Triple C Tofu and and Chinese Celery with Pork and Tofu. The service, while not gushing/fawning American-style, is great – not a lot of chit chat, but definitely attentive. Great for take out or dining in.

Nice service and big portions of food. The dishes are authentic, even though the owner are not from Sichuan. I lost my scarf there but luckily found it again. Especially the dumplings are super good. Only problem is finding a good place for parking

You don’t give 1 star and drag down the rating of your favorite restaurant bc it’s temp closed for renovations until August. You give it 5 and you mention it politely to onlookers.

I ordered takeout. The soup dumplings are a portion of just 3 when you pay the same for 6 from dumpling home/house. Also the meat quality was lower, so I’m surprised at the high price.

Don’t see the reason for their good ratings on Google. Food is mediocre just like the service. If you can get passed the flys circling and hovering around the bar / beers on draft… You can stomach the food. Dishes are kind of bland. Portions are somewhat stingy. Steamed and pan fried dumplings are just OK. The chicken and eggplant was salty saturated in oyster sauce. Beef and green beans was decent with a lot of onions. Location is secluded from the rest of the Castro which is nice and neighborly.
