Stopped by Marlay on a beautiful Tuesday evening. The outdoor seating was very popular and accompanied by a group of musicians. There was plenty of indoor seating available as well. Indoor pub decor was cozy.

Nice little pub in downtown Decatur. Parking was free, limited, and a little tight. The restaurant had plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and it was spooky-ly decorated for Halloween. We ordered the Goat Cheese Fritters — this is what annoys me about appetizers that are served in odd numbers: you have to be selfless and give up the extra fritter to your spouse or test them to see if they have a generous heart. Or I guess you could just stare at the last piece for several minutes and see who will get it first. So yeah…it only came with 3 fritters and being the generous personI am…I gave it to my husband. I ordered the Warm Brussels Sprouts Salad and OMG I couldn’t stop eating it. Just don’t smile if you’re on a date or with friends, because the dressing is half black pepper, halfvinaigrette. I had so many black pepper flakes stuck in between my teeth at the end of my meal…it was so embarrassing. Good thing I’m married and my husband sees me without makeup…so black pepper teeth ain’t the worst thing he’s seen of me.My husband ordered theShepherd’s Pie and devoured it like it was his last meal. Our server was friendly and attentive. Definitely will come back to try if I’m in the area.

We ate outside and it was very pleasant. Service was quick, food was great. We each enjoyed our meals. Loved the inside which has a lot of character and Halloween decorations.

We went out to Marlay House on Labor Day evening. It was busy for a Monday, but we were able to easily find seating at the bar. The service was great, and they gave some recommendations for drink specials that were a good match. It’s a pub so you’re not going to get fancy or bougie drinks, but they have a wide selection of Irish beers and standard liquor options.

Brought here by some regulars and they pretty much recommended everything. Staff was friendly. Service was great. We had a big group and food came out fairly quickly. They had a really nice beer and cocktail selection.

3.4 | highly recommend the brussels and the bread pudding! they also have a good drink selection. I just think it doesn’t quite stack up entree wise to some of the other Downtown Decatur gems, but it’s open late and does a good burger so we come back pretty frequently.

Wait staff was amazing and the food was decent. The smoked salmon was great as was the brussel sprouts. I ordered a Whiskey Blues and it was like a blueberry pancake. One of the best drinks I’ve had in a minute!

Overall, a standard pub experience. Nothing is bad. My critiques would be for the draft list, which is a little limited on variety, and the occasional smoker in the outdoor seating area. I enjoyed the one sour beer on tap, as well as the fish and chips. I’ve also heard rave reviews from friends about the desserts. Certainly a good spot for being with friends.
