This place has been on my list to visit for a few weeks and I finally made it in. The blackened salmon was a bit over seasoned but cooked perfectly. The fried okra and black eyed peas were delicious beyond words. I enjoyed the max and cheese and yams. I was able to make a second meal out of this. They skimped on nothing. Very nice ambiance. Plenty of parking. Attentive staff. Efficient service. I visited on a weekend during the late afternoon and was able to take a call and work remotely. The music added to a fantastic experience. I would definitely return. I hope you find this review helpful. If so, please give me a thumbs up. Thanks in advance.

Food was absolutely Great,HOT (which is great) waitress was so kind and helpful. She was the only waitresss there, felt bad for her but she definitely handled things wonderfully, and gracefully! Best food I’ve had in awhile. The thing on table said “not your grandma’s recipe” but, definitely touched my soul. All praises to the cook! Thanks for great service and upscale soul food restaurant. Great atmosphere. Wish the bartender was available though but no complaints!loved the diverse crowd too. A “Gem”

My friends introduced us to this wonderful place. I was pleased to be able to enjoy all my favorite veggies meat free. My husband’s fried fish sandwich was humongous and delicious. My only problem was the toddler size cornbread that we had to request.

Nice atmosphere server was nice and attentive, ordered the two piece white chicken with the two sides mac cheese an sweet potatoes and wanted to try the red beans rice and greens so added those to my order. The chicken was fried perfectly crispy on outside with flavorful skin and juicy on the inside. Sides were good, I didn’t care for the greens though didn’t seem like they were cooked with the neck bone, ham hock, salt pork so they weren’t very favorable. But all in all great place will return and bring friends to check em out!

The restruan’s article in beacon showed a above average place to dine. We went on a friday nite at 7.00 pm when the hours say its open till 9pm. The entrance to it has 2 high steps so high my wife needed to have help getting thru the door or risk a fall. Once inside the waiter sad the kitchen closes at 7;15 when they advetrise 9 pm closing. It was 7.05 and right off the bat I felt like we were being warned not to stay. My wife had the 2 pc chicken. It was as big as a pidgeon’s breast . The liver I had were good but too much breading for my taste. The place was more on the dark atmosphere. We learned they close the kitchen down so the owner can fry up food for his other place kin canton ohio. Don’t waste your money. Don ponchos in green has better food , good service at affordable prices and dosen’t shut down at 7;15 on a Friday noight

Stopped by on a Friday night before a show at the Goodyear Theater. My burger was delicious. The strawberry salad that my daughter ordered was yummy. Bar type atmosphere. Service was friendly. I would return for the burger alone not just on show night. Prices are reasonable. They do have jambalaya, gumbo, and chicken etoufee on the menu. I’d like to try them as I fell in love with New Orleans on a recent trip.

Food was great. Everything was well seasoned, hot and fresh. I had the 2 piece chicken (white) with Mac and cheese and black eyed peas. We also had the chicken gizzards which were amazing and surprisingly tender! Service was sub par at best. Service was okay aside from having to wait over an hour for our food. Server stated that the kitchen never received our order which was a bummer. Drinks were decent. I would probably order takeout from this restaurant rather than chose a dine in experience because the food was worth it. This was my first take on this jazzy, soul food gem in Akron.

Came in prior to going to an event at the local theater close by was seated and greeted by our waitress who was very attentive and good. We then had some other people join us, and now, knowing the owner came out, was very nasty, rude and somewhat yelling at us, stating that any more than three people needed to have a reservation we had previously been on the website. Didn’t see any of that kind of information on there and it wasn’t a problem but it’s not always what you say it’s how you

This was my first time eating here. I love the atmosphere and location. The food was great. There was food on the website that they didn’t have on the menu. I was wanting fried green tomatoes and cornbread, they had neither. I asked the waitress if they had dinner rolls, that was a no. I could tell she didn’t want us there, as she gave us our food she left the check. After that we decided forget dessert.
