West Tennessee’s legendary whole-hog BBQ tradition is the cornerstone of Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint. Pat Martin learned the art and craft of West Tennessee-style smoke and meat 25 years ago in the tiny town of Henderson, TN before making Nashville his home. It became a consuming passion that eventually led to a business when he opened the first Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint in October of 2006 in Nolensville, Tennessee – just south of Nashville.
We come in at 5 am, every day, seven days a week. From the sides to the sauces, everything is made from scratch every single day – You’ll never find a freezer or microwave in our kitchens. But the bar-b-que actually starts a day ahead, as the process for smoking whole hogs simply can’t be rushed.

I came in from GA, for an appointment at Vanderbilt. The atmosphere was okay it was very hot like the AC was broken. However, the staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered a variety of menu items (catfish tacos, smoked dry-rubbed wings, Brunswick stew, mac&cheese, baked beans, potato salad, pulled pork sandwich, spare ribs, and brisket). The wings, ribs, potato salad, and baked beans were amazing! Everything else was okay.

Sunday we met family in Birmingham at Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint at the request of my brother. It’s one of his favorite places & he couldn’t wait to share it with us! What a great place! I don’t like slaw at all but my brother order the BBQ pork & chicken nachos with slaw on the top. After talking me into it I be tried them and they were great! Surprisingly good, and I was taken by surprise. Then my Brisket Burger showed up and it surpassed my expectations. It was really one of the best burgers ever and the fries were just as good! Don’t miss this place, it’s a keeper and we will be back again!

Great BBQ in a family friendly atmosphere. The casual outdoor area is great for families with young kids, AND dog friendly. Small things that would make it even better 1) paper sheets and crayons for kids to color on, and 2) the wooden fence keeping kids away from the busy road has gaping holes. Staple up some chicken wire so I can stop stressing about the two year old getting into the road and focus on more on which beer I want to order next.

Are you hearing impaired? Use a hearing aid? Too bad, because the music is loud and the staff will tell you to get bent. “It’s management policy to have it that loud”…and “No, you can’t speak to the manager because he won’t turn it down”.

My visit to Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint in AL left me overall confused. The restaurant was clean and the employees were overall nice. The issues started when I placed my order. On the menu my order was supposed to come with Ribs and Brisket yet it arrived with Ribs and Pulled Pork. I spoke with the manager near by and Brisket was brought to the table.

The quality of the food continues to decline with time. Like others, I’ve had the same experience with the brisket containing a very large amount of fat. The sides are not as great as they once were and the pulled pork was dry and was a very small portion size compared to other restaurants. Overall, they have a great atmosphere, but the quality of the food just isn’t there anymore.

Absolutely best bbq around. Mac and cheese was super flavorful. Also one of the few places in bham that have brisket. Their brisket burger is also a must try. Great atmosphere and plenty of shaded outdoor seating with fans.
