As first timers visiting DC, we were looking for a unique place to eat and Masala Story had it all. The owner greeted us with kindness and even shared his favorite special Coke product from India. I got the Shrimp Curry with Potatoe Bread on the side and it was incredibly good. A substantial meal if you are looking for a great lunch and possibly leftovers. Very happy we chose Masala Story!

Wow, what a true gem in DC serving Thali style of dining in which one can select multiple options all served with Roti and rice.

The most amazing Indian food!!! We got the tikka masala, butter chicken and the samosa special. The flavors on everything was just so on point. The naan was soft and delicious. The spices and sauces all really worked well and that was the best jasmine rice I’ve ever had. The wait staff is so beyond friendly and made us feel so welcome!! Food was so abundant we took dinner home!!! So good.

Masala story has some great options for food. We liked mushroom curry , kadhi , egg plant . Parathas were decent too. Would like to see chapati or roti in a home made flavour. But DC area has a problem with good chapati, couldn’t find it anywhere

Good food at reasonable prices. I would recommend vindaloo (chicken/shrimp) and goat biryani if you are looking for non veg items, shrimp vindaloo was spicy. Thali is a great option if you are open to tasting more than 2-3 curries. The staff was friendly, restrooms were clean. However because of my personal bias, i didn’t like food serving style in a to go box. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting DC.

Expensive prices (50 dollars for 2 ppl) with cheap plastic silverware and paper cups. The screen in front prompts you to tip 20 percent but you have to get up and get your own water, soda and thin fast food paper napkins. No plates are provided so we had to eat like dogs from the cafeteria tray to split the samosa appetizer. Each meal is served with some horrible, bland overly spicy channa inside of the rice so I had to keep leaving my table to refill the water. Please don’t serve spicy channa when the person has ordered mild food. It’s not separated out but dumped right on top of the rice. The rice is so oily that they put a piece of paper underneath to collect the oil and stick it in a plastic styrofoam tray to add to the cheap experience. Instead of garnishing with dhaniya leaves, the garnish is wilted spinach. The butter chicken sauce was good but the chicken is too dry as the other reviewers mentioned. The chicken was white meat which I liked, but this type of meat dries out very quickly. Samosas were good and not too spicy. We did not get green chutney. Korma sauce was OK but not the cashew royal creaminess one would expect from korma. Also the portions are small and any takeaway items quickly disintegrate the paper cup in which it’s served. Next time I will search for a more authentic Indian restaurant where I can get some refills of water and be treated properly as a guest instead of a server for the people at my table.

Ordered Dal Makhani, garlic roti and a pair of samosas. Dal was great, perfectly cooked with right amount of spice level, came with a decent serving of rice and a small serving of channa. Only feedback is quantity of Dal, it should be a bigger bowl. Samosas were great. Garlic roti was disappointing, ordered it based on reviews but it didn’t come out well. It was hard and chewy. Can’t say if it was one of incident or that’s how it is.
