Had been here many years ago and arrived by our small boat and docked right at the restaurant. Eager to have their great clams casino and a fisherman’s platter. Sadly, none of those were to be found on their short menu. Not thrilled with the choices and prices. Fish and chips. Fish very meh, but the fries really good.The views are great. We’ll try someplace else next time.

Great service – horrible food. Not sure if they’ve ever tried it themselves. Only thing that’s worth eating is the baked clams. Cool atmosphere, great for bar food and drinks but if your looking for a good meal, skip this place.

I have been coming out to Fire Island for years…and my annual tradition of my lobster dinner is a treat I look forward to. First time at Matthews. Let me say, the.food.was.spectacular! Specifically, the lobster was cooked to perfection, our waitress Olivia was a sweetheart, ambiance far exceeded expectations of other Ocean Beach establishments. It was probably the best meal we ever had on Fire Island. And that’s a long time! Don’t miss this hidden gem….!

Fire Island’s best restaurant with amazing waterfront view and delicious seafood ❤️ . Baked clams were sooo good, and so were the calamari, truffle fries, salmon, bbq tuna . Manager, bartenders and waiters were so kind and took good care of us the entire time. We enjoyed our wonderful dinner and definitely will come back! Thank you for making my first visit to Fire Island a perfect & memorable experience!

Im embarrassed to admit I have been coming to FI for 35 years and this is my first time eating at Matthews — and it did not disappoint! We had the halibut on the regular menu and swordfish on the special menu; both were absolutely delicious! (My one comment would be to serve extra olive/tomato toppings on the halibut on the side.) Plus, my cucumber infused vodka martini with elderberry was so refreshing! Highly recommend!

The cornbread at Matthew’s literally blew my mind. I do not even remember how the rest of the food tasted. The cornbread was just so good it blocked out everything else like a solar eclipse. It was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. It was absolutely amazing. Go there and spend the 7 bucks or whatever it was on the cornbread. You will not regret it.

Absolutely the best lunch I’ve had on Fire Island! The spicy margarita was perfectly balanced – spice, sour, sweet and salt. And, the mussels were sublime with the light but flavorful broth finishing with a hint of licorice provided by caraway seed.
