I had such high hopes for this place, and I was completely let down. The salsa was too spicy and liquidy. The chips were either way too hard or just stale. The nachos were not even nachos since they had zero flavor, and it looked like a toddler made it. The tacos were extremely bland, and the only flavor I got was from the taco shells. All in all, the food was basic, bland, and underwhelming. Also, the waitress was never around. She only checked up on us once, and that was for a refill when they brought over the food. We had to flag her down for the cheque, and that was after waiting 10+ minutes just awkwardly sitting around since we ate everything. Once she came and gave it to us, she just left even after I had my card already out. It took another 15 minutes for her to actually come back and take it. At this point, I was just planning on leaving the cash on the table and just leaving. I don’t think I will ever come back to this place again, even if a friend says that they will pay for my dinner.

The best seat in the house is on the patio – it is next to the fish pond in the far back right hand side. A perfect table for one or two. The view is outstanding and it is perfectly in the path of the misting fan.

Delicious food, as always! It had been a while since I last ate here, but I was as pleased to discover that the food and ambience was as good as ever. The guacamole was flavorful and creamy, perfect texture. The chips were crispy and stood up to the salsa and guacamole. The brisket taco accompanied by charro beans made for a hearty and satisfying lunch. Staff were helpful and friendly and attentive. Ample parking in the lot. Great atmosphere!

This restaurant has amazing reviews and amazing seating outside the staff is friendly and the service is fast and weekend. The food was OK. We did not enjoy it as much as we thought we would because mostly everything was bland. Contrary to Mexican cuisine. The chicken had less to no flavors. It could’ve been much much better & margaritas was OK. The only thing good was chips and salsa and salsa was pretty good. It can be pretty busy and it’s hard to get a parking spot.

This was my first visit to the Austin area and my sister kept me well fed. This was our last stop on the way to the airport and it was fantastic. The flavors were perfect and the portions were great. The service was friendly and the prices reasonable. I love classic places that serve generations of families in their communities and serve them well and this place is a classic example. I couldn’t even pick a favorite dish because it was just all so good.See you nexct time I’m in town!

Came during prime dinner time at 6 PM and they got us in right away! We sat outside, but it was shaded, and the sun was starting to set behind the trees. They also had mist fans on the tables that were not under the shade. We ordered queso and a margarita so were good to go. The servers were very attentive and made multiple stops back at the table to refill waters and chips. Food came out hot and even better than expected. We will definitely be going back soon!

Excellent Austin institution. Open for over 70 years Its basically organized chaos on the inside because it is always slammed. You can get drinks at the bar while you wait if you are so inclined. Very solid veggie options. Lots of parking, though it can fill up. They have valet too. There is patio seating. No split checks. Cheers to another 70 years!

We had a party of 7 and were seated after a 30 minute wait on a Saturday night…pretty good! The food was fresh and tasty, drinks were fabulous, and service top notch. Great place to visit. Only criticism was the restaurant was warm and a but loud.

Food was good, not great. Atmosphere was busy. Service was ok. Not the best spot but wasn’t bad. Probably wouldn’t return anytime soon. The tacos were probably the best item.

Hadn’t been to Matt’s in close to 20 years! It was packed when a group of us went on Friday, Cinco de Mayo. But the service was great and the food was delicious! They also had great lunch specials, which we all ordered. They also make all tortillas in house, which is a huge plus for me. I will be back for sure!
