Being the case they don’t rush you so uf you expect fast service maybe this not for you but if you like fine dining good food and good service this is the place. Is the restaurant out dated yes but I love that. Remember expect a little receive alot

We had a great time! We were looking for a delicious Friday night fish fry with a change of scenery. So we drove up to Hartland and stopped here by chance. loved every minute of it. They were busy, and slightly understaffed which seemed to surprise a few of them. We were patient and honestly the service was only very slightly delayed. nothing at all that upset us. Our boy had the burger, but we had the fish fry, and it was EXCELLENT! it was brought to our table buffet style and we ate off the main plate together. the fish was phenomenal. We would absolutely visit again!

I’ve only gone on Fridays for the unlimited fish fry. Both the fried and baked cod are delicious. They are served with breads and great German sides. Their potato pancakes are good, but their french fries are the best I’ve ever had.

The food was good the couple times I was here but last time it took 35 minutes to get a drink order, newer tables food came out before ours. I mean our server was nice but very overwhelmed I feel like maybe they were under staffed but during the holidays that’s something you plan for. I would go back again all I’m saying is don’t go in starving!

We dined here for the first time in April 2019, and it was generally disappointing. First off, there is no proper hostess station when you walk in, so no formal waiting list, so it feels like you are walking into gramma’s living room or something. We were directed to the bar, stating a large party of 40 had just left, and they were busy busing tables. Another couple had walked in right before us, and another right after us. Strangely, the 3rd couple to arrive was seated first, so I got up and looked around, finding that there were PLENTY of open tables, and asked the hostess what was going on. She seemed scattered and generally speaking she didn’t have a good answer, just kept apologizing, and that just made a bad impression on that right off the bat. The place has some beautiful stained glass German style windows and some original wood doors, and really could be a gem, but has an oddly cut up floor plan with some cheap bifold doors to close off various rooms for banquets is my guess, but really is in DIRE need of a general facelift and modernization. Most of the decor was dingy and very dated. Slight odor of moth balls near the front door bar area. Pictures on the wall way too small, tablecloths and chairs very outdated. Floor plan cut up and made of many different little rooms, table placement and sizes seemed odd. On a positive note, food was fairly decent – I had the parmesan crusted salmon, dripping in a bit too much butter, but overall very good. Husband had Lake perch and that was very good too. But both the cheese soup and clam chowder soup were mediocre, lacking that creamy, tasty texture (clam chowder needed more clams, and cheese soup really wasn’t very cheesy), and the service also was good enough but not outstanding. While we were dining, the bus staff was working, and instead of taking the bus carts into the room they were working on, had them oddly placed right in the aisle adjacent to our table, just bad judgement there. My hope is someone steps in for a complete REDO as it could really be a nice place under proper management.

Came here a year ago and recieved terrible service. Not only did newer tables recieve their food before us (we ordered the Friday Fish Fry) it took an extremely long time for it to be brought out. On top of that our waitress was rude. We were pretty hungry when we first arrived, after being seated for 50 mins with still no fish fry brought out to us, we flagged down our waitress and asked how much longer as we were considering leaving at that point. The food was finally brought out…cold. We ate the very small bowl of potatoe salad which was probably 1 large scoop that two of us shared we requested a second serving of the potatoe salad (as it is all you can eat) when we asked “would it be at all possible to get another bowl of potatoe salad” our waitress said “seriously?!” We were taken back by her response especially after waiting AN HOUR TO BE SERVED at our table and said “yes, please.” It was hard to flag her down even though by that time the rush had died down and only 2 or 3 other tables remained in the entire restaurant by the time we got our food. It was a terrible experience and we decided not to go back…..until today. We figured it had been a year and we’ll try it again. Our experience started out great, we were seated right away ( though with the place being empty except at the bar I’d hope they’d seat us right away.) We were promptly asked for our drink order. We decided to order the french onion soup-which was really good and the spinach pizza for an appetizer- also really good. For dinner we ordered the fish fry. The fish was dry, overcooked and tasteless. My boyfriend turned to me after taking a bite of the potatoe salad and said “try it and tell me honestly what you think.” I took a bite and said “well to me it tastes like it is just doused in mustard..like its just pototes and a bottle of mustard.” He said “that was exactly what I was thinking.” He then tried the coleslaw and asked me what i thought about it. I said “well it taste like it’s straight cabbage and doused in vinegar.” He agreed. The fries were pretty good though. I told him we should let the staff know as I’m sure they would want to make it right for us. He on the other hand thought we shouldnt say anything. In the end, I informed the waitress our thoughts on the food. She just blankly stare at me until she finally said ” soooo…what do you want me to do about it?” Ummmmmm how about offer to remake it? Or pretend you care by giving an apology or attempt to make it right? Instead I said “nothing. You dont need to do anything.” She then said “should i box the fish up for you?” ( mind you I didnt even eat half of 1 piece of fish and my boyfriend barely finished 1 piece either.) We both only took 1 bite of the potatoe salad and coleslaw. I responded with “no, that’s okay. We probably won’t eat it.” On a sidenote, while our waitress did check in with us after the appetizer and soup, she never checked back in with us after serving the fish fry. It wasnt until she overheard us talking to each other “yeah she hasnt checked in with us yet.” That she came over. Instead, she sat at the bar talking with coworkers. When she finally brought us the check she insulted my boyfriend with a comment that I felt was rude and unnecessary. We absolutely will NEVER be back again. There are so many better choices out there than this place. After reading through alot of the reviews, I noticed that another individual thought the same thing as us regarding the potatoe salad, coleslaw and fish. Don’t bother coming here unless you want bad service and hit/miss food.

We dine here as often as we can. Our favorite spot is in the main bar area, in a corner booth. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is friendly, and Max Meier’s is our new favorite in Hartland. From the moment we walk in to the moment we leave, we are made to feel welcome and like part of the family. Definitely try the geschnetzeltes, but you cannot go wrong with any other choice on the menu. Five stars…no question.

The Cashew Chicken Salad can be made inside two puff pastries (ir without it, just on top of lettuce) and with the puff pastry it’s absolutely the best dish served here. The draw backs are that they don’t take more than 2 credit cards per table which creates a lot if unnecessary drama for diners. You would think they would want to accommodate their diners instead of making us do all the work. And, it wouldn’t hurt them to update their decor – it looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 70’s.

Done! 3rd time terrible of 3 trips in 6 months.Friday fish fry was near burnt, dry, shoe leather.A mustard based potato salad was yellow mustard and more yellow mustard.Vinegar based cole slaw….vinegar. I am sorry but we didn’t even finish half of the very small portions Amy brought us and when we brought all this to her attention it was like talking to a blank chalk board. Normally would have sent it all back and left but we were tired from work and trudged thru a $ 75 disaster.Never again, won’t spend our hard earned money here, too many good restaurants nearby. Time to close up the old place,it is tired and so is the food and the help.Good luck.
