Not much to look at on the outside or the inside but that is sometimes typical in Texas. You’re there for the food. The BBQ is pretty darn tasty. And save room for the banana pudding. It is great. The guys behind the counter are friendly.

Less than 10 minutes from the Texas Barbecue Mecca of Lockhart sits a family owned old school style joint cranking out some of the best sausage in the area. Believe it or not, this sausage rivals the likes of Smitty’s & Chisholm Trail while being outright tastier than Black’s & Kreuz. Yes, it’s in a small town, yes, it’s about 10 minutes from the main barbecue drag, BUT, no barbecue crawl of Lockhart should exclude Maxwell’s (MBC), the short drive is worth it.

Beautiful hidden Jewel. If you enjoy S-Tier brisket with killer burnt ends and tender sausage with a good snap, you need to stop here ASAP. And they won’t even break your bank which is beautiful for barbecue now-a days.

Maxwell Barbecue is something magical. Brings back that old school barbecue taste back. The sausage is great! Snappy and juicy. Meat is not greasy. If you’re looking for your new go to spot for barbecue, do sleep on this place.

This is how I remember barbecue joints as I was growing up. These guys didn’t spend millions of dollars to make their building look old for Texas Monthly and tourists. They just offer what they have: really good meats served by good people in an unassuming dining room. I like it a lot.

This place was fantastic! The brisket was top notch. Right up there with the best of them. Definitely is not about the “ambience”. It’s a bit of a run down building but that adds to the charm and with BBQ this good who cares?

Pork ribs are tender and flavorful, brisket was good cus it didn’t have the smokey flavor that sometimes causes heartburn and the sausage was delish! Not greasy at all like at some other BBQ places. Definitely going back! Great job guys! Get there early cus they sell out!

This BBQ was amazing. The sausage was so good not greasy at all and they have a spicy sausage as well. Potato salad and beans were on point.
