Mazzi’s Menu – Eugene, OR

Type : Italian restaurant

Location : Eugene, OR

Since 1970…
It has been our pleasure to serve the freshest and most delicious Italian and Sicilian food available. It really started before 1970, when Tommaso “Mazzi” Ernandes decided to set out from his home in Favignana, a little island about 12 miles off the westernmost tip of Sicily.

His son, Frank, attended the University of Oregon in Eugene and, after graduating, decided to open a little Italian restaurant named after his father. Papa wanted to be where the action was and took Mama with him. They loved to help around the restaurant.

Many of our recipes are adapted from the families of Papa and Mama Mazzi, and originate from Favignana. Each dish carries the homemade stamp of quality usually found only in the Italian home kitchen.

Cozy Sicilian & Italian eatery with patio seating offering pasta, thin-crust pizza & hearty entrees. Based on 742 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.1 stars. Price $$$

Liam, our server was good. Calamari was the of one of the best that I have ever eaten. It really melts in your mouth. It’s usually rubbery or chewy in many places that I have visited. Parmesson Eggplant and Chicken Pesto, both pasta was overcooked, but guess that is how some establishment does to suit local taste buds. Tiramisu was the best among the 3.

We made a reservation a couple of hours before dinner, and it went through without issues. We ended up arriving 10 minutes early, and were seated right away.

Pretty yum—I went here with a few friends and the food was great. I do recommend making a reservation if you can, it seemed pretty packed when we arrived later in the day and I’m glad we had one.

NEVER BOOK AN EVENT AT MAZZI’S! The most unfortunate experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant in my life and to make it even worse it was my own wedding. I booked the private room for a party of 30 well in advance. I had been in communication with Brett one of the managers. I paid $125 to have the private room for the whole night. He asked when I’d be there and I requested 4:15pm so I could set up some decorations for the wedding. He came and introduced himself to me only once, he was very unfriendly. Everything was going great until around 6:45pm our waitress told us that Brett said we needed to be out in 15 minutes! We hadn’t even cut our wedding cake yet or anything! I was so upset I was crying (on my own wedding night!!) and didn’t understand why we were being told we had to leave when I payed to have the private room for the whole night. I spoke to Brett and he pretended he had no clue what I was talking about in regards to having the room the whole night. I wish I had known to get a contract in writing saying that we’d have the room all night. I truly couldn’t believe this was happening. He told us that another party was renting the room at 7:30. We refused to leave bc we hadn’t even had our cake or done presents. At around 7:15 he had his workers in the room trying to move tables around while our guests were still eating! We ended up all moving to one table since some of our guests had left. We had been playing music and kids were dancing throughout the night it was so fun! He came in and demanded I turn off the music and that the kids needed to stay in there seats. Mind you, these are all children under the age of 5! Plus who doesn’t dance at a wedding!? He knew what the plan was and he snuck around, planned another party with the assumption we’d be leaving by 7:30. When the next party came they were clearly very upset as well. Brett told us he put the heaters on OUTSIDE so we could move our party outside. It was VERY cold and we had 4 infants with us. One being my 5 month old son. Why would we want to sit outside in the dark, wet, rainy weather anyways? Truly the day was going perfect until Brett had to ruin it. My partner and I are both in recovery so we said nobody would be drinking at the wedding. Brett even mentioned to us that night when this was all going down that he figured since we weren’t drinking we would be out early. That is so unfair. If this hadn’t happened, I would’ve had our next big event there considering the food and atmosphere was so nice. However, with everything that happened we will NEVER be going back there again. Everyone who was there with us was also horrified. My parents and brothers flew out from New Jersey to be here for my wedding and they couldn’t believe the way my husband and I were treated by Brett. It was truly disgusting! He is a creep and stole our money. We also ended up paying three times the tip amount. My parents were not informed that 20% gratuity was already on the bill. They and someone else paid two separate tips. Someone should have informed them they were paying extra when the tip was included. I will not recommend this place to anyone solely because of Brett. I also will be fighting to get my money back for the “private room”.

I’m at the age where I remember going to Mazzi’s with friends of mine from the grad dorms at the University of Oregon. We made it a point to go there at least once a month.

Took the Wifey on a date night last night enjoying a meal here. Wifey had the Cannelloni while I had the Lasagne, both were very good. They offer reservations which is why we ate here versus the other very good Italian restaurant where you have to wait for a table to open. This was our 3rd time at Mazzi’s, and each time the food was very good. Wish the bread that’s served with cold butter was warm is the only thing.

The braised short ribs in a wine sauce was so… good, very tender and falls apart, yet you need a knife to cut fingerling potatoes. They should be where you can mash them with a fork. The buttermilk pesto dressing was really good. The only thing wrong was the waitress kept taking a long time to come around and had to wait when we had a reservation.

I guess a Caesar salad is just romaine lettuce? We ordered two Caesar salads (one small and one large) and garlic bread. The Caesar salads were just romaine lettuce with no parmesan or croutons, while I normally wouldn’t care we spent $41 on this meal. To top it off, the lettuce was wilted and the dressing was runny. The garlic bread was good and that was the only saving grace of my order.
