I looked up local reviews on the best sub shop in/around Altoona and McAbee’s was several people’s nomination. It was closed 2 or 3 times I tried to go there but I made it there while it was open the other day and it definitely lived up to the hype and was well worth the wait. So many choices. Will definitely be back again and again. Went with the super fish this time around and I couldn’t even eat half of it. So big. So good. Zucchini planks were also good and cooked in fresh oil.

The food has improved drastically since their opening. Their prices, especially the $10 lunch deal, are very reasonable for the portions and the quality. And the staff are very friendly and patient! Very good place for dine in and take out.

The food was AMAZING! The new location is beautiful and extremely clean. The grilled chicken salad topped with french fries was one of the best salads I have had in years. If you are a salad freak like I am then you will understand how important it is to not have to much or to little of something.

Having resided in the Altoona area for 21 years transplanted from Philadelphia area. I ate in having the full Italian hoagie. To me the high price wasn’t appealing. The mayonnaise I wanted was missing. I enlightened the staff on the history of the term hoagie. I did appreciate it brought to the table. It was way overstuffed with lettuce. Tomatoes looked like sugar cubes. I did enjoy the small cup of dressing. Because of overpriced and abundance of shredded lettuce, I can say, I’ll never be back.

Baked hoagies seem to be the standard in Altoona and I’m not complaining. They’re delicious and McAbee’s did not let me down. The lettuce was a little much, but was easy enough to push into the basket and eat as a salad with the included fork. I think I need to try their other food. It smelled fantastic.

Really good food. Order ahead tho, they get busy for lunch and food can take sometime. Depending on what you order a 30 minute lunch is to short. It’s worth the wait if you have the time.

I don’t know if it’s just what I ordered or not, and may give them a second shot. I had the keto pizza bowl and it was so full of grease it was unbearable to eat and I had to throw it away. Now on the other hand my husband had a cheese steak and really liked it .
