This was my second and last visit to this place. Customer service was not friendly at all from the first visit a few months ago to the current one on Saturday 4/29/23. Food was just “ok”. Nothing to brag about. We did have the banana pudding also and the bananas were brown but the pudding itself was “ok”.

Super nice staff! Generous portions. Split a brisket plate with hubby – so good – and had leftovers. Crinkle fries are my favorite style – crisp and salty. Fried okra was breaded just right. Hubby liked the fried garlic mushrooms, but I was too focused on those fries. Definitely getting barbecue from Merles again soon!

I had a pulled pork sandwich and a side of coleslaw. The barbecue sauce was only on one side of the sandwich, the roll was stale, the coleslaw had way too much mayonnaise and was extremely bland. Even though the sandwich only had barbecue sauce on one side, it was still all messy/sloppy inside the wrapper. Fortunately the sandwich tasted good. I just wish it had more barbecue sauce.

I have ordered from here several times, and my wife and I love their food. My wife always gets their brisket! The brisket has always come in nice slices as you can see by other peoples reviews. Tonight when I opened up the plate I thought I was given the wrong thing. When I took it inside they told me that it was the brisket, and that it is just so tender and hot that it’s falling apart. It has never looked like this before for us, and based on other people’s reviews with pictures, it hasn’t for them either. It literally looks like they had what was left in a pan, and took a ladle to it, grease and all! It is all shredded pieces swimming in grease! Also, I don’t recommend asking for fries for both of your sides! It appears tonight that they decided to give me the same amount that I get for a single order and just spread it between the two spaces. Usually I get fries and something else, but tonight we went with double fries..won’t make that mistake again. Had this been our first time there I wouldn’t know any better, but this is definitely not how it normally is served! It is also not nearly as much as they give normally for the price you pay..after driving the swimming pool of grease you can see what was left.

I used to come to Merle’s all the time when I lived in the area, and I haven’t been back since covid. I got a chance to stop in for lunch while in the area for a home inspection for a client, and glad I did. Food is still the same great food, wings and brunswick stew are always my favorite. They have some big monster burgers too, but I’m holding back on the carbs a bit right now. They’ve updated since it looks like, but it’s still a great hidden gem for some good BBQ. Go check them out if you’re in the area, tell them Eric Berry with Fathom Realty sent you.

We have been on the hunt for a great bbq place. This isn’t it. The pork was not good , ribs were good but not a fan of the sauce. Sweet but tasted old if that makes sense. Baked beans were way too sweet and I mean way to sweet. The brisket had an odd taste. Almost like an underlying vinegar taste. Tender at first but as it cooled off it became rubbery. Slaw and fried green tomatoes were okay. Very small place and clean. Definitely a place where the locals go and they were not overly accepting of new outsiders. Not rude but we got some stares. We went before what I’d call rush hour. Quick service. Not a place I’d drive 30 minutes to get to again.

$28 for fried chicken BREAST sandwich (which turned out to be frozen chicken tenders that you get from the grocery store) with fries and slaw, small hickory fry (which was very dry and the fries tasted old, I couldn’t even eat them) and an order of fried pickles. So not worth the money. Very nasty! Husband just threw up! Not to mention, was told it would be 25 minutes, I get there and the two ladies are bickering over a ticket # getting duplicated and the younger one says “I don’t even care anymore! I just want to go home but I can’t because of this!” Needless to say 25 minutes turned into an hour. NEVER AGAIN!

The food here is great! We enjoyed all the food especially the brisket. Very flavorful and tender. If you like Bar-B-Q you must try this place out!

Ordered Brisket ,green fried tomatoes, and baked beans don’t know if I came at a bad time but brisket was warm did not have any flavor and was dried out. I’m sure the food there is good it’s my Honest opinion .Being that it is local I’m sure their brisket is better when there not closing ☹️. I was so sad I couldn’t eat it. I was really looking forward to some good barbecue. The baked beans were good but I couldn’t eat the rest.

Good value here, lack of personality with some of the staff. Not a big fan of the burgers. The chili is not overcooked and bitter. It goes well with the hotdogs. Great place for a quick eat, low cost and tastes decent.
