Heard of Mike’s Chicken from other travelers and had to give it a try. Great local roadside spot to grab a bite to eat for sure. We got the Luau Special the try some variety. Chicken was good but the pork was fantastic. The pork was so moist and flavorful it stole the show for me. Everything was fresh and tasty. Mike’s has a great atmosphere no doubt. It was featured on The food network Diner’s Drive inns and Dives. I can see why.

I was very excited to stop at Mike’s, but my experience left my kicking myself for not pulling off at any of the earlier beach spots along the way. Once we arrived there were already several customers who had been waiting 45+ minutes just to place their order. And there was no “line out the door” you might see at any other hot spot, this was a small group of people. The girls in the window lackadaisically took our order without much care, and let us know it might be “a while”. The food was just OK. I ordered the Huli chicken, the laulau, and the pork. Perhaps the weekender and rush season crowds have jaded Mike and his crew, but there was no magic to be found here, and the lack of effort translated to a disappointing meal.

This was the first place we ate when we got to Hawaii and it definitely set the bar. My husband and I both got the chicken/pork combo and it was very flavorful and filling. I preferred the chicken over the pork but they were both good.

We visited Mike’s in July of 2023. Food is fantastic! But I’ll get to that in a second. The staff was beyond helpful. One of our family members fell and was scrapped up pretty badly. They brought out a chair, ice, and first-aid supplies just so nice and genuinely helpful. BIG mahalo!

Definitely good, but not as good as the reviews led us to believe. Also, they were rationing chicken because they were running out. So we ordered the chicken / char. Everything was good! The pork reminded me of Chinese BBQ pork.
