Went with my daughter after seeing the spicy grilled cheese highlighted in the paper. Old deli feel with homemade salads and refrigerated sauces/pasta to go. My chicken cutlet sandwich was huge and very good. My daughter’s spicy grilled cheese was a whole heck of a lot of cheese and she said it was very good. Two sandwiches and a 1/2 pound of potato salad were $31.99 but I would definitely go back again.

Omg I could dip this into it….(yes they sell those too) lol LITERALLY a gentleman sitting as soon as you walk in…making pasta. Premium sandwiches. This place takes all the common ingredients you know and love in a sandwich and elevates it. There are many other places to go for ordinary turkey cheese sandwiches, but I come here for their specialty sandwiches. They really put a lot of thought into the menu and ingredients. I’ve bought a few types of sandwiches, some of their handmade pasta you can see them make when you walk in and I can say I never leave unsatisfied.

What an amazing experience I just had ordering from Mike’s! We ordered through doordash and I wanted to add broccoli rabe to my sandwich. A very nice man called to confirm and I said not to worry about the addition if it was a problem. He said not at all! I’ll take care of you! They even added a little dessert to our order. Talk about a great business ethic and taking care of your customers! Best of all the sandwiches and salads were absolutely delicious!!! I loved their eggplant sandwich. Also one of the best fresh pastas I’ve ever had. A friend gave me the spinach pasta and I cooked it today with a pesto alfredo sauce and it came out amazing. I will be running here to get more for sure.

I don’t like to use absolutes, but I would say of all the delis in Nutley, this might be the best one. Consistent and a good value. While I have had other items (and they were good too), it’s hard for me not to get the Chicken Cutlet – the regular, not to be confused with the special, which is sometimes called the Chicken Cutlet. The reulgular chicken cutlet comes with provolone, but I substitute that with mozzarella. The mootz is fresh and perfect. The Chicken Cutlet is always crispy and filling. They finish it with fresh arugula, which is always fresh and, of course, the roasted red peppers. Bread is crispy and yet also soft. Finally, it has a balsamic glaze to bring the sandwich together. I get it every time because it’s simply great! Staff is always friendly, and the business has a nice small town feel. They have lots of other quality Italian items there, too, and they look to be all homemade. Price wise, it isn’t the cheapest, but it’s a spot where you pay for quality, and it always delivers. For me, that is worth it every time! Overall I give Mike’s Pasta and Sandwich Shop a 4.7 out of 5, a must try for all things sandwich and Italian.

I have been eyeing this shop ever since Pig and Prince closed down. It’s a cool looking place, you can see where they make the fresh pasta in house and all of their meats and salads are on display as well. Please be aware that their menu is primarily sandwiches. We thought you could order pasta dishes as well but you have to buy the fresh pasta and sauce and make yourself. Which was no problem, just not what we anticipated. We decided to get the eggplant sandwich which had fried eggplant, whipped ricotta and tomato jam. Very unique! And the chicken cutlet sandwich which had breaded chicken cutlet, provolone, arugula, roasted red peppers, and balsamic on great crispy bread- superb! We got a pound of fresh rigatoni and their homemade pasta sauce. We had that the next day for dinner and it was amazing. Highly recommend. We also got one of their seasonal pumpkin breads with cream cheese which was excellent. On top of all the food being great, the staff was above and beyond. I accidentally spilled my coffee in their and the guys made no big deal about it. One of the staff’s dads was their and even offered me a bite of the dish his son just made! Oh! We also got some of their savory bread pudding which was like Thanksgiving in a bite. This place is awesome. I wish them the best of luck! I also hear they run private pasta making classes which I will for sure be looking into. Keep it up, Mike & co!

I loved this place. Had a really cool independent feel to it. The 1st thing that hits you when you walk in is the AMAZING smell. The place itself has a really neat punk rock feel to it in its subtleties. The staff are super welcoming and very friendly. You can tell from the feel that everything is about high qualities ingredients and a home made feel. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious

First visit, certainly won’t be last!! The sandwich was brilliant! Chicken cutlet, mozzerlla and broccoli rabe was delicious! Portions were huge! Bought the fresh spaghetti, sauce and mini meatballs – Loved them too!!
