We ate outside and the ambiance was very nice! We shared the Ploughman’s Board and it was amazing. Each item in this appetizer was wonderful. We did have to ask for the deviled egg spread (which it said came with the board) because we received two whole deviled eggs instead. The spread was delicious and they should definitely keep it! Also, the gnocchi was wonderful; it was very fluffy, potatoey, and very comforting. Overall, a great choice for dining in Black Mountain.

Great Martini cocktails, on a Sunday night, expertly made by Haley. A full menu of great food was available and we enjoyed the pimento cheese and crackers. A friend enjoyed and complimented the pork chop dinner.

We have visited the Monte Vista Hotel for dinner and drinks in the past. For this visit we were just seeking drinks. On Sunday only a few restaurants are open in Black Mountain, especially in the evening. We tried one and it was packed with a waiting line out the door. It was easy to get a good glass of wine and beer at Milton’s. We started at the bar, then decided to sit outside on their patio. It is comfortable with tables with umbrellas. Sadly the patio needs some TLC. The center brick (former fire pit) now is a flower bowl with ferns. The upper potion is falling apart and takes away from the nice setting of the patio. Other diners were enjoy dinners and seemed to be very pleased.

While staying at the Monte Vista hotel we enjoyed dinner here. Casual dining at the bar so we could watch the College World Series but the restaurant was full of locals and it’s obvious why. Food and service was great, we will definitely be back when in the area. We spoke with others dining that were staying in different hotels but had come here for a casual dinner. The outdoor space looked so inviting but it was raining so we didn’t go outside. Chef inspired menu that we were told is updated seasonally.

We absolutely love this place and can usually be found here on the weekends. The food is locally sourced and delicious with changing seasonal menu. Drinks are also lovely and change with the season. The servers are just great and have been there a long time. All around great place to dine.

Update: the General Manager, Ken Floyd, promptly contacted me and offered a complimentary meal due to the service we received. He indicated that these issues were corrected with additional training. I’m very satisfied and grateful that he did the right thing. Every restaurant deserves a chance to make things right. So I’m updating my review to 4 stars until we come back, which we will. I justify this based on the very good meals we did enjoy, my wife’s Black Sea Bass over Quinoa, and my Southern-Style Fried Chicken with Haricot Ver and Crispy Red Potatoes. Our Carrot Cake dessert was also very good. So, give them a try and let’s hope their service issues are fixed!

Had an amazing dining experience at the Monte Vista Hotel. Food was terrific but Austin really made it special. I had the melt in your mouth beef tenderloin and my friends enjoyed the country fried chicken. All were cooked moist and tasty, with seasons that really made them special.

Absolutely lived the southern fried chicken. And the deviled egg spread. Only bad thing I can say is the place is so classy yet casual. But the staff does not reflect that. They should dress with more class as to represent the establishment

Definitely off-season – there were two patrons at the bar and one other couple in the main (?) dining area. We were seated, as requested, by the fireplace – my wife grew up in Hawaii and is very cold natured. Service and food were excellent. We enjoyed the same waitress we had several years ago on a previous visit – Francis. We are looking forward to moving to the area – I’m from NC – and frequenting your establishment, regularly. Highly recommended. Thanks

Nice cocktails and the steak was great and cooked perfectly. They had live music the night we were there. He was an accomplished musician and did play too loudly. Atmosphere was very relaxed. Definitely will stay here again.
