We went with a group of seven. Easy to get a table since we called a bit ahead of time and the weather was wet. We ordered the big sashimi platter $140. It had a bit of everything, mostly salmon and tuna. Calamari, octopus, lovely sashimi wrapped up in cucumber, mackerel, little cucumber cups filled with tobiko. We enjoyed 6 or 7 rolls, all different, all good. Ended dinner with green tea ice cream and tempura banana w/ vanilla ice cream. Plenty of sake and tea. The server was attentive but not too much. We all had a good time. Recommend visiting Mobo, I will be back.

Thoroughly bummed with how much Mobo has gone downhill. We have been going here for 15+ years and it used to be our favorite sushi in Santa Cruz, but now I can’t get over the 20% that they have added to to-go orders. Absolutely ridiculously. They have also increased the prices, which is not totally uncommon, however, when making this change they also decided to make the rolls way smaller. We supported this business all throughout the pandemic, but we can no longer get over the 20% surcharge, and unfortunately, we will no longer be eating here.

Mobo has always been fantastic food, but I was recently diagnosed with Celiac disease and am not able to have any gluten; even trace amounts. We dined in a couple of weeks ago, and the service was great, even offering gluten free soy sauce (Tamari or Braggs, I can’t recall). I only ordered from their gluten-free selections, and everything was delicious, but later that evening my stomach started to hurt, so I knew I’d ingested something containing gluten. Unfortunately, it was not even a case of cross contamination which usually goes away within 12-24 hours, this lasted for 3 days! I don’t know if it was possibly the wasabi, the sushi rice, or something that went into each roll/dish, but there was definitely gluten in the gluten-free items. Because of this, I have to unfortunately not recommend Mobo for those who need to be gluten-free/have Celiac disease.
