The first Mona Lisa Restaurant was established in 1956 in downtown San Diego by Grandfather Stefano Brunetto. Our Little Italy restaurant and deli opened in 1973. In the early years, it also operated as a wholesale import business, supplying Italian provisions to the local tuna fleet and other San Diego restaurants. Since then, Mona Lisa has become an institution for Italian food and culture in the Little Italy area.
We are now in our third generation of family management and look forward to continuing the Mona Lisa legacy. Whether you are walking through our authentic Italian deli or dining in our family Italian restaurant, we welcome you to our family’s tradition.

Always a great dinner stop! The gulf shrimp were delicious! The veal was tasty and filling. The service started slow but got better real fast! Love the attached shop with all the Italian goods you could imagine! Parking right in front, didn’t wait long for someone to leave.

Not a fancy place. BUT if you want the old-fashioned real American Italian food experience, this is the place. The red sauce isn’t just tomato sauce, it is a pomodoro sauce. The marinara is full of flavor. The meat sauce is a little skimpy on meat but you can sure taste that it is there. The deli meat and cheese platter was plentiful.

Wow ! I’m still dreaming about the lasagna at Mona Lisa Italian foods. It came out piping hot and enough for 2 people. My husband and I were stuffed. Service and atmosphere are fantastic. They have a great deli and Italian market that are connected to the restaurant. Do not miss this spot if you’re craving great Italian food.

I took a group of 8 to eat here and we had a very enjoyable meal. The food is authentic Italian, the portions are large, and the presentation unfussy. I like these things and sitting and eating together felt timeless and relaxing. The ravioli, the meat sauce, and the gnocchi were particularly good.

We were recommended to give this place a try while in Little Italy. It was right between lunch and dinner but they allowed us to take a table for service rather than putting in an order. They had coke products and a wine list that caught our attention. We ordered cheesy garlic bread for appetizer. The bread was tasty and the marina was warm. I only had room for a small salad but did elect to put chicken on it. The Cesar salad was chilled and had flavor – the chicken was as cold and came from a can (or at least that’s what the taste reminded me of). The price of that small salad and chicken was around $18.00 – which I thought was a little much. My husband ordered the pizza – two options of the Margherita & Tomato Ricotta & Rosemary. He enjoyed it (we took it back with us and ended up eating on it the next day for lunch). Overall, there are many options for Italian places in Little Italy – give it a try and see what you think. We will continue to try new places.

My girl and myself at our first time at Mona Lisa. We went to the deli and she ordered a # 8 and I ordered the # 11 caprese sandwich. OMG FRESH AND DELICIOUS. Full sandwich worth every bit of $10.75
