The food and wine were amazing. The server was attentive and kind. Thank you Zacharia! The only down side of the meal was the exceptionally loud, large party next to us that made it difficult to have a conversation.

I had the pork cheek with farro risotto, and my wife had a few of the small plates. Everything was great in quality, and very reasonably priced. The fried bologna sandwich was a standout – it was everything you’ve ever wanted in a fried bologna sandwich, but extra. The only low point was the lingering scent of rubber in the air from taking over space in a flooring shop. Overall, though, the experience was the culinary high point of two weeks in Des Moines.

MST has a fun and casual energy with a very trendy aesthetic. We were really excited to go and as always with new restaurants, we try to order as much as we can to really scope out the menu.

For a laid back environment, elevated pub chef quality food, this place was good. We went for dinner, have not yet tried brunch. For appetizers, the deviled eggs and chorizo potato empanadas were good. The pork cheek risotto was delicious; meat was super tender. The fried chicken was good and fall off the bone tender (for the thigh/leg pieces) but please note that it does not include a normal chicken breast, but instead a thin boneless breast piece – more like a giant chicken tender. Tasted perfectly good but probably not what you are expecting. You can get sauces (bbq, Korean, Nashville) – one, none, or all three. For sides the mint carrots and the grits were both great. The clafouti was AMAZING for dessert – almost like a soufflé with a southern flair. Cocktails were average for a decent restaurant but nothing spectacular. The bar and kitchen were a bit slow, not excessive though, and the waitstaff service was great!

We met friends for dinner. It was our first time at MST. I had Chicken Fried Chicken and my wife had the Hangar Steak. We both loved our meals. I was able to choose 2 sides with the CFC and I selected the cheesy grits… excellent and smokey corn… Very tasty. The CFC has a little kick to it, but I like a little “heat”. Our waiter was super helpful and attentive. Overall a wonderful experience.

Had the best wait service here with a cool overall vibe! Food was good…the brioche donuts and adult drinks were delicious.

There were some high points and some low points with my recent visit. Let’s start with the good, the atmosphere is cool, hip, and gives off a very relaxing feel. The waiter was amazing and interacted with us and even took a picture of our group. What wasn’t so good was the appetizers that we ordered. The perogies came highly recommend by our waiter but fell flat and left us wanting something else. We got the loaded french fries and they were very good. Entrees were better but still had some misses. I got a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it only had the bottom piece of bread. Other people’s meals had some minor issues. Overall we left a little hungry, a little disappointed, and unsatisfied. They do serve breakfast, which I would like to try but I don’t think we will be back for dinner again.

Run, don’t walk to Motley School Tavern for brunch. I had been once before for apps and drinks but this was my first brunch there. My in-laws were visiting from out of town and thanks to this group we landed on this place. Everything was incredible. Our server Tre was spectacular – he was knowledgeable and friendly. I asked for my Bloody Mary to be on the spicier side and it came out perfectly – I also love when horseradish is a part of the mix. Everyone at the table kept going back to the loaded baked potato fries even after we were full from our meals. The portions were very generous. I loved the wild mushroom omelet and had a couple bites of my husbands’s lemon curd cakes which were perfectly fluffy! We will def be back.
