I ordered super late (like 1am) and the food was hot and pretty tasty. And I only waited maybe 20 min. But I know they just gutted the whole kitchen and got new appliances, new paint, new floors (I watched guy do all the work the past few months) and wrote up a new menu . So for those reviews that are super nasty about not having food….that’s why there was no food. They were doing all repairs and upgrades themselves and they took a couple months to start over. I’m gonna go order some food to check out the new menu. I’ll update my review later

I hate to rate a restaurant that I’ve never actually tried the food. I did want to review my experience just trying to order food. First I tried to order online because that was an option from the website. That ended up being a bust. I was right in the same complex so I decided to go in and order. Most awkward experience trying to order food. First walking in the order window is in a weird spot. I walk up towards the window. There’s a man behind a computer/pos thing. We make eye contact, he looks down, looks up, I wave, he waves back. Proceeds to slowly get up and put a mask on. Then he proceeds to talk into his phone and look down again. We make eye contact again and he still says nothing to me so I left. Perhaps I could’ve said something first? Still super awkward and kinda rude in my opinion. May try again in the future.

This is just a little dumpy restaurant that’s mostly here for the lottery but if you’re lucky enough to get the little old Japanese lady to cook for you you are in for a delightful surprise.

Nasty very greasy over cooked inedible overpriced gross, can not even call it food. Had to throw both meals in the trash – vegetable lo mein, general tso’s chicken – after only a few bites. The best part of the meal were the cold Spring Rolls (pre-made and bought frozen) that we had to go back and get because they forgot to put them in our takeout bag. Wish we could give zero stars.

The only thing I order here is the Saigon Noodles… it is a fabulous stir fried vermicelli dish with a few vegetables and shrimp… I have not been able to find this particular dish anywhere else in Portland.

The New China Garden Restaurant is located within the strip mall along Powell Boulevard and 148th Avenue. There are several businesses located in this mall including Charlie’s Teriyaki, Lucky Lion Dispensary, a convenient little store, and a hair salon. It may be mini sized but don’t let that disuay you from stopping in! The food here is comparable to several of my favorite Chinese American local restaurants like Kwang Chow, and Mai Wai’s. They have a variety of dishes and combos to chose from, and ordering to-go is the quickest way to get your take out during the Pandemic. The staff is great, and they also offer Oregon Lottery for those interested in playing video poker, or wanting to grab dinner and purchase your Monday, Wednesday and Saturday state and nationwide lottery tickets, all in the same trip! New China Garden accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards as well as cash. All lottery is cash only, and they do have an ATM machine available for your convenience. I give New China Restaurant a ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star rating, because the food was very good but the service was slower than average during my visit. In all fairness, this could have been due to the time of day, and other restrictions required by WHO, in order to keep thir business open to the public. FYI: New rules are forbidding persons to bring food or drink into the lottery and video poker area of the restaurant, so don’t be surprised to be rejected if you are wanting to enjoy your favorite beverage while playing in the lottery area!!!

Love this place! The food is fantastic! Hot and fresh! They also give really big portions of food! Sure you have to wait but it’s worth it! I won’t go to any other place!

We walked in New Year day because they said OPEN. The gentleman who was behind the counter said “no food” … Ok…. We asked for a menu just to see what they had… No menu. I don’t think we will walk in there again. But if you like lottery, that part was open.

My wife and I were out running errands and decided to stop for lunch somewhere…nothing in mind. Coming up to the plza on 148th and Powell, I turned in to see if there was a place to eat. Saw “The New Cinese Garden” sign and decided to give it a go.
