Hands down the best Chinese food in downtown new haven (I wouldn’t compare it to other cities, just new haven) . I would say the authenticity of the food in this restaurant is ~70% which is pretty high compared to other Chinese restaurants over this area which is not even close. Whenever I am craving for Chinese food, I would definitely get some from this place. Though the price of food at this place is significantly higher than other Chinese restaurants around this area, I feel that it is worth it to pay that extra few dollars for better quality and taste.

I gave the restaurant a 2 star rating, not because of the food but because we were placed in the very back of the restaurant and had place settings that included “to go” wood and plastic, cheap looking water glasses and ceramic plates. The food was good but very slow and I am not sure why we were placed in such an isolated area.( I did not request a private area.) No other customers were placed back there and in the front of the restaurant the tables were not set with glassware, flatware and plates that did not match. Those tables exhibited the elegance and quality I was lead to believe was part of the restaurant’s reputation. I don’t believe there was a problem of room in the front, considering tables were empty and none of the other people waiting to be seated ended up in the back of the restaurant. The reservation was made 24 hours before. I would appreciate an explanation.

Had a quick lunch here during the weekend. It was very well decorated with oriental theme. It was spacious inside. We ordered spicy beef noodle soup, pepper and pork stir fried rice and the very typical Sichuan dish- Fu Chi Fei Pian. They all came out very delicious and flavorful. The beef noodle soup was not on its menu. But I knew a restaurant specialized in Sichuan cuisine would normally have it so I asked. Sure they did! It was very spicy but tasted exactly as I had in China. And there were lots of tender tasty beef meat. I was super happy about the food. Will definitely come back.

We had a wonderful lunch here. There was an extensive choice of both vegan and non-vegan options, and there were many unique dishes that we were excited to try. Food was excellent, with the twice cooked pork (vegan) and dry tofu with peanuts being particular standouts. Service was prompt, polished, and helpful. Highly recommend this place!

We thought it was the most authentic Chinese food we have had and close to being in China. We ordered the steamed pork dumplings and sautéed chicken with 5 pepper blend. We could see and taste the pork in the dumpling and the dough was thin. The portion was perfect for two people. The chicken was full of chili peppers, ginger, and different spices including numbing pepper. The menu includes numerous dishes including tripe and we don’t usually see that on menus. The down side was it too a very long time to be seated and the restaurant was too hot. They were very short staffed I think. Reasonable prices.

The main dining area has a nice atmosphere, especially with holiday poinsettias and spruce decorations.

So-so service! So-so food! Not worth the price- especially the cod with pickled vegetable soup (try this dish somewhere else). Salt and pepper calamari (good). Pork dumplings ( so-so, the presentation was not good), YongChow fried rice (ok).

Pretty solid Chinese food- standard options. For vegetarian, try the cabbage with Sichuan pepper, and the tofu. Scallion pancake was very tasty. Water glasses stayed filled which was nice.

This place has been really good, I ate there many times UNTIL recently I tried their General Tso’s Chicken. It was a reheated leftover, when I ate it I was intoxicated on the SPOT. I suddenly became really nauseous! please do not reheat old food. Care for customers.
