New Ulm Turner Hall is more than a building, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it is the historic Rathskeller. As the oldest bar in Minnesota, generations have enjoyed a good time and great food.
We’ve been serving good food (and beverages) in the same room since 1873. Enjoy lunch or dinner (and a little Gemütlichkeit) in the historic Rathskeller. Our menu includes classic German dishes, as well as contemporary American fare, all at reasonable prices. We also have the best patio in town!

We went to the downstairs bar in Turner Hall for my mother’s birthday celebration. I got the schnitzel with the spaetzle which was amazing. The schnitzel was crispy and flavorful and the spaetzle had the perfect tender consistency. Others in my group enjoyed the fish and chips, burger, and the fried shrimp. The alfredo wasn’t the best. The noodles were a bit overcooked and the sauce tasted bland. We found that the drinks were reasonably priced and the skillet cookie with ice cream was delicious. Overall, we would happily go back if we’re in town!

This place is so awesome (referring to the bar in the basement) I don’t have to write a review…that being said, love your schnitzel and the fact schells is on tab has made this place into heaven on earth for me. Also, being German in descent it’s good to go to a place where I can celebrate it.

It was interesting The food was edible the signature noodles were… just don’t do it to yourself. The paintings were gorgeous but the “chimney sweeper” carving looks so racist to the point where the waiter had to explain to calm our party’s nerves and we still felt like we shouldn’t spend our money there. The ribs pricing was weird 25 full rack 21 half rack makes no sense ♀️ but I guess …. their lemonade was watered down and no real offers for people who don’t drink pop/soda or want liquor… salads were made for a baby no real girth to them just grocery store style on a toddlers plate with a couple slices of cucumber ♀️ … so the waiter was fun but I would never return.

“Oldest bar in Minnesota” is the brag to this restaurant and thirst quenching dive. Came here on a Thursday to scope out a good campout for Vikings games, which this probably isn’t quite it for that. Turner Hall does deliver a nice rustic atmosphere though. I find it odd that I’m saying this, but this place needs the crowd to look and feel the environment it’s offering. Believe me, I love quiet, but this historic platform missing even a few patrons and bar flies seemed ironic as to how it made it this far. My buddy got a Reuben which, in both our opinions, is the best in town. Chunks of corned beef cut right off the brisket and plenty of sauer kraut. I got the bleu burger that tasted great. The burger was a little short on the bleu cheese aspect.

The online menu was different than the menu we were given. But staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was good. We were out for our anniversary dinner, and I think I expected something fancier! We sat on deck, had a great time.

Enjoyed the 3 napkin burger and sweet potato fries with spicy aoli. My son really enjoyed his walleye and an icy cold bud light. Server was more then gracious. One of a kind atmosphere. A great historical stop off the beaten path.

The tourist book claims this is one the oldest bars in Minnesota. Quaint little bar under another building. 6 taps of all Shells beer. Great local hangout. The locals were very inviting and funny. Didn’t have any food but the menu looked great. Will go back whenever I’m in town

Beth, our server, took excellent care of us. We wanted to spend time relaxing and enjoying the evening and not rush through cocktails and dinner. Me and my husband had the prime rib dinner special and it was very tasty. The place is charming and reminiscent of places we visited in Germany. We got Schell’s beer to go at the bar to enjoy at our B&B. So good!

Amazing environment, authentic German experience, and the beer is cold. Their beer cheese sauce is great, and their turner sauce is *chefs kiss*. Eli, our bartender had great recommendations, service was great and he even had a cool moustache.
