We knew when we got out of the car we were at the right place. The BBQ smoke smelled amazing! I ordered a pork sandwich with slaw, beans and fries. Wife had a salad with chicken. Just love a place that offers me choices on sauce vs. forcing Eastern on me and they had EVERYTHING to choose from. Great Eastern Style, Sweet, Hot, Honey etc. Of course I had to sample all of them. Chipotle was my favorite sauce but that Eastern was a close second. 🙂 The pulled pork was fantastic. Super tender and not at all greasy or filled with nasty un-rendered fat. Just perfect! Smoke flavoring and the bark was really yummy too. Wife loved her salad put kept sneaking bites of my sandwich!! Can’t wait to go back. Picnic tables outside under cover looked very inviting. We expect to hit this place a lot to sit outside enjoying great BBQ. You wont be disappointed. Promise! (next to Chic-fil-a at Northlake Mall)

Some of the best BBQ I have ever had. In this picture, you’ll see amazing smoked sausage, juicy baby back ribs, and tender brisket with some 3-cheese mac and cheese, and a corn pudding. My wife has Korean smoked wings and lemon pepper wings. The Korean BBQ are the best execution I’ve ever had of a “gochuchang” BBQ sauce. I cannot wait to return.

Brisket too dry I had to drink 2 gallons of water. Sides too small and fries too simple. The price a little high for the quality of food they offer. Leave 1 star for cleanliness. As a new place they have a lot to improve.

This place USED to have the best BBQ in NC. I went in for my usual 3 trips a week and was told they don’t serve BBQ anymore… ABSURD. Does the owner not know his own skills? This was GRADE A BBQ. I would put it up against any in the state. Instead, I guess they want to be a fried chicken joint. I’m so sad there have given up the craft. Hopefully that recipe won’t go to waste.

I have eaten from here twice (via ubereats) and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised! I am not exaggerating when I say that North State BBQ has the BEST wings that I have ever tasted. Every food item that I have had thus far, is so flavorful and delicious! I have not had the pleasure of dining in yet, but I definitely plan on it and if their customer service is as good as their food, I will most certainly rate this restaurant 5 stars next time. North State, please don’t ever change how you cook (it’s amazing).

I was recently in for lunch hoping for brisket. It was unavailable that day, unfortunately. No problem. I went with the half rack of baby backs, corn pudding and fried okra. The sides and hush puppies were fantastic. Everyone in the restaurant was extremely nice. The ribs were a bit of a disappointment, though. Right away, the color indicated there wasn’t much smoke to them. There was also no smoke ring and little smoke flavor. The tenderness was pretty good, but the flavor just wasn’t there. I’ll plan to go back and either try the ribs again hoping for better or try something new. Give this place a shot. Maybe I caught them on an off day.

Everything was very up to par. I was a pick up order. Great customer service. The brisket was nice n tender! The corn fritters taste good with the bleu cheese. I had the sweet and sassy sauce. I definitely would recommend to all my friends and family.

Received a door dash order and was very upset with the outcome. For the price the portions were terrible. The food itself was not good. The ribs and wings were dry and the bbq was not impressive. The sausage had zero flavor. The Mac and cheese tasted like plastic. I did enjoy the spicy collard greens.

EXCELLENT FOOD EXCELLENT SERVICE!!’ the NorthLake location used to be Shane’s rib Shack. When North state moved in, we were skeptical because we loved Shane’s. My family decided to try North State one day and they exceeded our expectations! The food was absolutely delicious, the prices are very reasonable and the service is A+. we eat here quite often now, (actually eating some now) I would encourage anyone to order from here! You won’t be disappointed!

Everything about North State deserves 5 stars! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff and phenomenal food!! Those wings are the very BEST! We also tried the house made sausage and pretty much all of the sides. I’m dreaming about the Mac and cheese! Can’t wait to go back! So glad the Northlake area finally has a great restaurant that’s not a chain to go to! Couldn’t recommend it more!
