We are from Texas and just went to a wedding in Elizabeth City, NC where Old Colony was the catering business. I haven’t been inside the actual restaurant. With the exception of watching my good friend walk down the aisle with his daughter, the food was my most memorable experience at the wedding. Everything I ate, for it’s category was a 10. In Texas we eat brisket at least twice a month and it was amazing. I heard many others rave about the mashed potatoes. Next time we visit our friends, I want to dine here personally. Probably the best catered food I have ever had, and I’m a little over 50! Well done!!

So we finally made it to the Old Colony Smokehouse in Edenton. Their hours of operation are only thur, Fri, and sat 11am till 3 (or when they sell out). We got there at 1130 and parking lot was full. Went inside and there was a line . I paid attention to everyone around me’s plate to see what they were getting. Everyone had a side of street corn on the cob, so clearly that was the go-to side. We placed our order. I got brisket, my son got pulled pork sandwich. Literally the person in front of us got the last street corn 🙁 . Looking at the receipt we were ticket #44, that many people that quick and already out of their star side. Both meats were fantastic! Best brisket I ever ate at a restaurant. I’m definitely going there again.

We visited 8/5/23 at about 1:30 PM. Holy cow, this is the best BBQ I’ve ever had. We got the pork, ribs, green beans and pickled cucumber salad. All was fantastic but I’d have to give a special shoutout to the pork, which had absolutely no fat (big plus for me!) I’d love to try all of the meats and sides as it appears you CANNOT go wrong with anything. We live 2.5 hours away, but every time we are in the area we will definitely make a stop. Thank you for the delicious meal!

First time at Old Colony and was there at the open. I smoke all kinds of meat so I went for the brisket as if they can do a good job on that cut everything will be great. Was not disappointed and actually purchased a whole brisket before I left. Highly recommend this restaurant. Staff were as exceptional as the food. Well done

I am a native Texan who was raised on slow smoked brisket and barbecue beans. Being in North Carolina now I often have a hankering for that style of food. Nothing against whole hog Carolina BBQ, but sometimes I just want beef. That can be a hard thing to find in Eastern North Carolina.

Best brisket I have ever had in my life. We are from Raleigh originally, live in Asheville, and have travelled extensively up and down the coast of NC & SC, eating at as many local BBQ joints as we can along the way. This is some of the most delicious BBQ I’ve ever tried. The brisket is tender, smoky, and incredibly flavorful with a perfectly crunchy bark. The pulled pork was also top notch. Both are excellent without sauce, but their sauces are awesome too! Green beans and Mac n Cheese delicious as well. Show up early and watch them slice up your brisket before your eyes. Will be back again and again!!!

Of all the similar places I’ve been (i.e. City BBQ…which I really like) this place has the best tasting beef brisket, smoked turkey, and pulled chicken I’ve had. The mac & cheese and green beans were good also. I haven’t had their desserts and some other items so can’t give them a 5 star yet but once I do I have a feeling I’ll be upgrading this rating to a 5 star.
